The Kabataang Gitarista (KG) Program, a FREE Classical Guitar Training Program for Junior High School Students is now accepting applications for new members. This highly successful program is open to Manila, Pasay and ParaƱaque students. The sessions will take place every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the GSIS Museum, CCP Complex, Pasay City.
The KG was organized by the Artist Training Division of the Cultural Center of the Philippines in August 2012 to promote appreciation for, and interest in classical guitar performance among public high school students; to provide the highest level of guitar training free of charge through a scholarship program; and to develop a performing classical guitar ensemble.The mentor is renowned guitar pedagogue and arranger Prof. Jose Valdez of the UP College of Music, St. Paul University, and St. Scholasticaās College, and Daniel Lopez.
The KG has given performances at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and in selected public and private schools; in outreach concerts outside Manila as well as for private engagements. Five members were invited to perform at the āAsian Gems in the Artsā, at the George Town Festival in Penang, Malaysia in August 2016. Its recent performances were at the 1st Candon Music Festival in Candon, Ilocos Sur on May 25, 2019 and at the Manila Guitar Festival 2019 in the St. Scholasticaās College Manila on June 1, 2019.
In this connection, the CCP Artist Training Division is now inviting its eight batch of participants to apply for the Kabataang Gitarista Program which starts on Saturday, August 24, 2019.
The applicants should have the following qualifications:
1. Public Junior High School students of schools from PASAY, MANILA or PARAĆAQUE CITY;
2. Either in grade levels 7, 8, or 9;
3. High interest in learning the classical guitar;
4. Commitment to attending regular Saturday morning sessions;
5. Good moral character;
6. Average or higher in scholastic standing.
7. Should be able to bring a nylon-stringed guitar to the weekly lessons.
Interested students should fill up the attached application form (one completely filled out form per student) and send this via email to the CCP Artist Training Division at [email protected] on or before FRIDAY, August 23, 2019.
