TIPS FOR CABIN CREW ASPIRANTS: YOU ARE APPLYING FOR A CABIN CREW POSITION
Today is the Philippine Airlines and PAL Express cabin crew recruitment in Cebu. I am sure some of you reading this right now are either going to attend or are already there, looking for last-minute tips and advice.
So this is something I want to emphasize.
You are applying for a cabin crew position in an airline. As cabin crew, your primary role is to help ensure the safety and security of all passengers on board. You also attend to the needs of your passengers and help make their flight comfortable.
Being a flight attendant or cabin crew member is not about status, social media attention, a glamorous life, or turning the uniform into a fashion statement. Wearing that flight attendant uniform comes with huge responsibilities.
So you have to make sure that this is really the job you want.
Let me tell you directly. It is not as glamorous as how social media sometimes makes it appear. Free travel is only a benefit. You are not on a layover all the time. Many flights are tiring. Some are quick turnarounds. Some days will test your patience, discipline, and attitude.
Also, while reciting “Emergency bend down” may feel exciting during training because it makes the reality of becoming a flight attendant feel closer, those are words you would never want to say in an actual flight.
This is not to scare you. This is to remind you of the responsibility that comes with the role.
If you want to become a flight attendant, you must be fully committed to the work of cabin crew. You must be ready to follow rules, accept correction, handle pressure, and work as part of a team. You cannot carry an entitled attitude into this job.
As cabin crew, you are part of the team responsible for the aircraft cabin during a flight. The safety of your passengers will always come first.
So when recruiters ask, “Why do you want to become a flight attendant?” they are not asking only to test your communication skills.
They want to know if you are really there for the job.
Airline recruiters look for applicants who understand the responsibility of the role. They want people who are committed to helping ensure the safety and security of passengers, while also serving them with care, respect, and professionalism.
