“𝙉𝙤𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙝𝙤𝙣 𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙣, 𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙞 𝙪𝙨𝙤 𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙜 ‘𝙙𝙚𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣’… 𝘼𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙜𝙖 𝙗𝙖𝙩𝙖 𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙮𝙤𝙣—𝙨𝙖𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙖𝙮—𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙠.”

But mental health is not a measure of strength or weakness—𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻.

According to the 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, over 1 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞 are living with mental health conditions, affecting around 13% 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

Among young people, 1 𝐢𝐧 7 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝 10–19 experience mental health disorders, with anxiety and depression being the most common. More alarmingly, self-inflicted deaths remain one of the leading causes of death among those aged 15–29.

Despite these numbers, many continue to suffer in silence—1 𝐢𝐧 3 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐝𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝, while global investment in mental health remains 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐰 2% 𝐨𝐟 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, let us move beyond stigma and misinformation.
