The events that unfolded in the Senate from May 11–15 were not merely political disagreements. They exposed deeper cracks within institutions that are meant to uphold democracy, accountability, and public trust.

From the Senate coup and the tensions among senators, to the controversies surrounding the ICC investigation and the disorder that erupted within Senate premises, these incidents revealed how vulnerable democratic institutions become when political survival is prioritized over constitutional principles and public service.

At a time when many Filipinos continue to face rising costs of living and uncertainty, it is deeply concerning to witness public institutions consumed by spectacle, division, and power struggles rather than genuine governance.

𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐲 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐨𝐬, 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐮𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫.

The Republic deserves institutions anchored on integrity, leaders guided by accountability, and a democracy that values principles more than personalities.

May this Senate fiasco serve not as another passing controversy, but as a reminder that democracy must be continuously protected through participation and the collective demand for good governance.
