The UST Journalism Society is the official student council of the Journalism program offered by the Faculty of Arts and Letters. It addresses the needs and opinions of every student enrolled in the program and plans programs and activities that would benefit the whole Society in becoming good and effective journalists. Santos

The UST Journalism Society hosted “The Amazing World of Journos: The UST Journalism Society General Assembly and Program Orientation,” on Aug. 24.

The assembly featured the program orientation delivered by the Society’s adviser and Department of Journalism chairperson, Assistant Prof. Joselito B. Zulueta.

The UST Journalism Lab was also formally launched by Journalism Society Co-Adviser and J Lab faculty editor Nathaniel Melican, who also introduced the J Lab's student executive board.

The J Lab aims to get students’ journalistic works, typically submitted as academic requirements, published in partner newsrooms.

Recipients of the Dean’s List award were also recognized during the ceremony.

The UST Journalism Society congratulates the winners of the 22nd Philippine and 12th Student Quill Awards.

Journalism seniors Sheridan Joy Delfino and Ariza Marie Llorca from The Flame received the Excellence Award for their in-depth feature, “Roblox and other games blocked, but online gambling accessible through UST Wi-Fi.”

Journalism senior Kayla Pauline Gonzalez from The Flame received the Excellence Award for her contribution to “Paying to pull it off: Students turn to ‘academic ghost writers’ despite policies against dishonesty.”

Journalism graduate Mariamne Yasmin Yap from The Flame received the Excellence Award for her article titled, “When walls talk: Get to know the artist behind Españas cryptic graffiti.”

Fourth-year journalism student Jade Alecksandra Bagas and alumnus Shayne Lee Andreas Macaraeg received the Merit Award for “Non-Thomasians given a taste of cherished UST traditions in dazzling UAAP opener.”

The Varsitarian received recognition for its UAAP Season 88 primer, “Welcome to My House,” produced by journalism alumni Rob Andrew Dongiapon and Karis Tsang.

The Varsitarian also received recognition for its multimedia campaign and print issue titled, “UAAP IS HERE,” spearheaded by former editor-in-chief and journalism alumnus Chalssea Kate Echegoyen.

The Varsitarian was also recognized for its special report titled, “Thomasians walk out: Students condemn corruption, call for accountability,” with contributions from journalism senior Luis Angelo Palma.

Congratulations to all the winners! The UST Journalism Society celebrates this milestone with you.
