What happens to community science when listening, documenting, mapping, and asking questions are red-tagged?
In another dispatch from Ghent, our Laboratory Head and Chief Researcher, Asst. Prof. Timothy James L. Cipriano (), reflects on how red-tagging threatens the very conditions that make community science possible in a country that remains dangerousโand even deadlyโfor environmental defenders, journalists, community organizers, and indigenous leaders.

Our Research and Training Program Head, John Aaron D. Corpuz, shares his own reflection of the journey of PNU GeoSTaR Laboratory as it celebrates its first year anniversary.
He emphasized that the discipline of Geography is fundamentally about engaging with the realities, inequalities, and communities that shape society. In just one year, the Laboratory has begun building meaningful spaces for geographic education, geospatial awareness, and community participation within and beyond the university.
This milestone is made possible by the people who continue to believe in the power of Geography to inform, connect, and transform.

Yesterday, March 22, marks the 1st Anniversary of the PNU Geography and Geospatial Training and Research Laboratory.
Guided by the motto, โ๐๐ฒ๐ผ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ต๐ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐๐บ๐ฝ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐. ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ง๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐บ๐,โ the laboratory has flourished under the leadership of Asst. Prof. Timothy James L. Cipriano as Lab Head and Chief Researcher, with Jericho Garcia as the first Lab Co-Head, alongside its dedicated founding members who helped shape and lay the foundation of the labโs vision and direction. As the laboratory enters its second year, new leadership steps forward to carry this legacy forward and drive it to even greater heights.
In a world that often asks us to verify who we are, this past year has been our quiet but powerful answer.
Not through checkboxes or codes, but through the work we do, the spaces we create, and the people we help empower.
