The PUP Department of History congratulates one of its notable alumni, Mr. Jun Ryan L. Hernandez (AB History Batch 1993), on his appointment as OIC-Principal of San Lorenzo Ruiz Senior High School in Pasig City. Mr. Hernandez previously served as a teacher and Head Teacher of Araling Panlipunan at Bonifacio Javier National High School in Mandaluyong City. In March 2024, he was appointed Assistant Principal of Pinagbuhatan High School, where he has likewise served as OIC-Principal since July 2025.

The Department extends its warmest wishes to Mr. Hernandez for his continued success in his chosen field of endeavor. We are truly proud of his accomplishments!

Selected faculty members from the Department of History of PUP, led by its chairperson, Asst. Prof. Sherrenne R. De Amboy, met with officials from the Center for Culture and Arts Development (CCAD) and the Bohol Arts and Cultural Heritage Council (BACH) to discuss a possible collaboration on an extension program focusing on the history and culture of the Province of Boholโ€”particularly its local history and experiences during World War II.

Proposed by the Provincial Government of Bohol, the initiative is in partnership likewise with the local government units of Bohol, the VFP Sons and Daughters Association, Inc., and the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO).

The PUP Department of History congratulates one of its notable alumni, Mrs. Leilani Aguila Engalan, AB History Batch 2001, on her promotion to the position of Principal at Carlos P. Garcia High School in Cubao, Quezon City. Mrs. Engalan previously taught at North Fairview High School, served as Head Teacher at Judge Juan Luna High School, as Assistant Principal at Leandro Locsin Integrated School, and later took the helm as OIC-Principal of Talipapa National High School.

The Department also extends its warmest wishes to Mrs. Engalan for her continued success and happiness as she celebrates her birthday today, November 10, 2025.

Our 4th-year History students โ€” Frenchie Dy Galoso, Robie Mar Macalalad, Lou Favilla, Shaina Fabella, Christine Mabini, Shiela Jamot, James Galanta, Ruelle Molina, and Kurt Enriquezโ€” had the honor of guiding young learners through this living timeline of the Filipino people, ๐™›๐™ง๐™ค๐™ข ๐™ฅ๐™ง๐™š๐™๐™ž๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™ง๐™ž๐™˜ ๐™ข๐™ž๐™œ๐™ง๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™จ ๐™ฉ๐™ค ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š ๐™ข๐™ค๐™™๐™š๐™ง๐™ฃ-๐™™๐™–๐™ฎ ๐™™๐™ž๐™–๐™จ๐™ฅ๐™ค๐™ง๐™–.

The Pamana Voices of Philippine Heritage led by ๐——๐—ฟ. ๐—›๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ซ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐—ณ๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ฟ and assisted by ๐— ๐˜€. ๐—š๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐˜† ๐—š๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ป, is an ongoing project that aims to engage and partner with various communities, on a global scale in discussing, discovering, and exploring what it means to be Filipino. The central theme of the exhibit was the Movement of People: Ancient Immigration into the Philippines and Modern Emigration. It sought to shine a light on the diversity of the archipelago, and to summarize some of the highlights of its modern culturesโ€”domestic and expatriateโ€” and remote past. Pamana traces how centuries of movement, adaptation, and exchange have shaped Filipino culture and identity.

May ๐˜—๐˜ข๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ข remind us that heritage is not just something we inherit from the past and is greatly affected by the things we do today. Let us cherish, protect, and advocate for our heritage so that we can truly ๐˜—๐˜ข๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ข it to the next generations.

Isang mainit na pagbati ang ipinaaabot ng PUP Departamento ng Kasaysayan kay Inst. Jolan S. Saluria para sa kanyang presentasyon ng papel-pananaliksik na pinamagatang "Ang Mindoro sa Hamon ng Pangangayaw-Moro: Kolonyal na Estratihiyang Espanyol tungo sa Repopulasyon ng Mindoro sa ika-19 na Dantaon."

Ang nasabing pananaliksik ay ibinahagi sa ika-46 National Conference on Local and National History na may temang "History and Identity," pinangasiwaan ng Philippine National Historical Society (PNHS) na ginanap sa Benguet State University noong ika-23 hanggang ika-25 ng Setyembre 2025.

Asst. Prof. Sherrenne R. De Amboy, Chairperson of the Department of History and Philippine Studies, together with Assoc. Prof. Mc Donald M. Pascual, senior faculty member of the Department, met with Dr. Na Li, a public historian and urban planning scholar from the National University of Singapore (NUS), and Mr. Ryan M. Tan, Shrine Curator II of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), at the Presidential Car Museum in Quezon City.

The discussion focused on the state of Public History in the Philippines, the establishment of the Public History track under PUPโ€™s BA History Program, and potential avenues for collaboration with the Department of History of PUP.

Dr. Na expressed her appreciation for the Departmentโ€™s initiative in offering Public History, highlighting its commitment to quality instruction by involving practitioners from the field to teach Public History courses.
