GEGs are independently run communities of educators who share, inspire and empower each other to meet the needs of students through technology, both in the classroom and beyond. Via face to face meetups and online activities, GEGs provide a way for primary or secondary school educators passionate about education and technology to meet like minded people and share, learn and collaborate together wi
th them. Google is assisting the creation and growth of GEG as its primary partner and inspiration, helping individual educators create GEG chapters, attract other organizers and members and run meetups and online activities. The best inspiration to teachers are other teachers and therefore, Google puts an emphasis on the role of inspirational educators in creating and expanding the GEG movement by providing them a platform for activities and connections. Online, GEGs provide a space for educators to discuss together and learn from one another. The offline activities take the form of locally run meetups as a way to learn and share face to face. There, educators will physically come together with others who are interested and passionate about discovering new ways to leverage innovative technology for education. There may be an expert at the event who is sharing his/her knowledge and experience, educators may hear experiences from other attendees and begin to build connections, or they could be working together on a technology and education related project. The GEG meetups are often themed, whether it is a focus on a specific Google technology, practicing sharing lesson plans, or having a more practical hands-on experience. How a GEG meetup is run is up to the organizing chapter and possibly its members and it could take a number of different forms.
