the College of Science Student Council President Mr. The tournament's champion came from MicroBio A under the helm of Mr. He also became the 1st Science Debate team Captain under the newly-formed Science Team A to compete for that year's Dialectics. The first Science contingent to the 1998 Dialectics also included Science B (Karen Vardeleon, Ana Kristelle Garcia, Michael Bindoy under the guidance of their team coach Mr. Kenneth Esperame who also opened the doors of Science debate into finding new opportunities in debate and public speaking competitions outside the college. As the years passed by, the College of Science Theater and Parliament (CSTP) was soon re-organized and has transformed into an official & OSA-recognized student organization in the University which gathered the remaining Science debaters into a “new home” under the triad stewardship of Juanito Alamar III, Mary Anne Cena and Jonathan Allen Bautista under the mentorship of their young adviser, Asst. Medina Florida. After being recognized as an organization, they pioneered the 1st Science Debate Championship under the "ACADEMIC DEBATE FLAGSHIP program" of the College of Science Theater and Parliament (CSTP) where the Asian Parliamentary debate format was fully-integrated as an English Public Speaking (ENG 4) requirement for the professors of Department of Languages. The debate program was offered to 2nd year College of Science students as part of their curriculum in the ENG 104 subject. The success of the tournament was later recognized as one of the academic-related organizational activities which prompted the Dean to incorporate such annual event into the English 4 curriculum through the succeeding years. Later, CSTP was renamed as the Science Debate and Drama Society (SDDS) which was primarily established to transform the former team's name of UST Parliament to the UST College of Science Varsity Debating Team for identity promotion purposes. The varsity team was officially subsidized by the Dean's Office to compete in Dialectics. The succeeding years were considered as the “golden years” for the UST College of Science Debating Team. From its inception, the team has become the Champion in “Crossfire”, has broken consecutively and reached the semi-finals in the UST Dialectics, has produced debaters who have competed and adjudicated in National and Asian debate tournaments under the flagship of the College. Truly, it has become a force to be reckoned with and has proven its dedication, passion and most of all, its reputation for debate excellence in the University. As UST celebrates its 400 years (1611-2011), the College of Science Debating Team and the Science Debate and Drama Society vows to continue the legacy of its alumni and to deliver PRIDE and HONOR to the College as one of the most prestigious institutions after recently being awarded as the sole recipient of the highest level of PAASCU Level 4 accreditation status in the University.
