The CONSTRUCT: Boat Making Competition, held on March 17, 2026, at the 8th Floor Student Lounge of FEU Institute of Technology, successfully served as the culminating event of the CONVER5E: National Civil Engineering Convention. Bringing together creativity, technical skill, and teamwork, the competition provided an exciting platform for Civil Engineering students to apply their knowledge in a practical and engaging setting.
A total of 25 teams participated in the challenge, each tasked to design and construct load-bearing boats that demonstrate stability, durability, and efficiency on water. The event formally began with opening remarks from Juliana Nicole Namata, Event Head of CONSTRUCT, who highlighted the significance of innovation and collaboration in engineering practice.
Following the orientation on mechanics and boat dimensions, participants proceeded to the planning phase, where they were given 30 minutes to conceptualize their designs. This was followed by the construction phase, during which teams were allotted three hours to build their boats using provided materials such as carton, duct tape, and scissors.
The testing phase assessed the performance and resilience of each boat. Initial measurements of width and length were conducted before subjecting the boats to incremental loading. Sand was used as the load, applied in 500-gram increments every five seconds. The loading process was immediately stopped once the boat sank, was completely destroyed, or when any unsafe condition was identified by the organizers.
To determine the winners, the Buoyancy Efficiency Score (BES) was utilized. This metric considered the maximum weight carried by the boat before failure in relation to the boatโs own weight, ensuring a fair and performance-based evaluation. The team with the highest BES emerged victorious.
After a competitive and thrilling showcase of engineering ingenuity, Team FlowtasticFour secured the championship title with a BES of 0.979. Team BoBOAT followed closely as 1st runner-up with a BES of 0.972, while Team SmoothSailors claimed 2nd runner-up with a BES of 0.970.
CONSTRUCT emphasized the practical application of Civil Engineering principles while fostering innovation, teamwork, and sustainability. It encouraged participants to think beyond conventional designs and explore creative solutions in boat construction.
As the closing event of CONVER5E, the competition left a lasting impression by celebrating the skills, passion, and potential of future engineers, inspiring them to continue pushing boundaries and making meaningful contributions to the field of civil engineering.

The CONQUER: Civil Engineering Quiz, held on March 13, 2026 at the 17th Floor Multi-Purpose Room of FEU Institute of Technology, stood as a premier academic event exclusive to Civil Engineering students of FEU Tech. As the second event under the CONVER5E: National Civil Engineering Convention, it delivered an intense and exhilarating test of knowledge, bringing together some of the brightest minds in the program.
Designed to challenge both mastery and mental agility, the competition featured questions drawn from key foundational subjects, including Engineering Mathematics 1 and 2, Physics 1 and 2, Calculus 1 and 2, Differential Equations, Engineering Drawing, Statics of Rigid Bodies, Mechanics of Deformable Bodies, and Fluid Mechanics. Participants relied on their technical expertise, critical thinking, and quick reflexes to navigate through the demanding rounds of the quiz.
A total of 16 teams participated in the competition, making for a highly competitive environment. The event commenced with opening remarks from Engr. Dave Apilado, a member of the panel of experts for CONQUER. The panel was composed of distinguished Civil Engineering quizzers who have represented the university in national competitions, further elevating the credibility and rigor of the event.
The competition began with two batches of eight teams, each vying for a spot in the semifinals. From these rounds, the top 10 teams advanced, narrowing the field to the most outstanding performers. The intensity heightened in the succeeding rounds, where only five teams secured their place in the finals. These finalists were Team Basavilla, Team ContraCEptives, Team OneTonMami, Team CubicMeterPi, and Team OneDeflection, ranked from first to fifth entering the final round.
In the final showdown, Team OneDeflection emerged as the champion, demonstrating exceptional knowledge and composure under pressure. Team ContraCEptives secured the 1st runner-up position, while Team Basavilla claimed 2nd runner-up honors.
Behind the success of the event was the FEU Tech Civil Engineering Quizzer Team, led by their coach, Engr. Dave Apilado. The team includes Jann Christian Cabatbat, Clark Francis Cruz, Paolo Cruz, Ron Gian Dela Cruz, Jeremy Esmeralda, Marcus Luis Macusi, and John Aaron Merza, all of whom have contributed to upholding the universityโs strong reputation in academic competitions.
CONQUER served as a platform for students to validate their academic foundations and sharpen their intellectual capabilities. It fostered a spirit of excellence and camaraderie among participants, reinforcing the importance of continuous learning and discipline in the field of civil engineering.
As part of CONVER5E, the event further emphasized the conventionโs commitment to academic excellence and the holistic development of future engineers, inspiring students to strive for mastery and make meaningful contributions to the profession.

The CONNECT: Bridge Building Competition, held on March 10, 2026 at the 8th Floor Student Lounge of FEU Institute of Technology, successfully marked the opening of the CONVER5E: National Civil Engineering Convention. Bringing together aspiring civil engineers, the event served as a dynamic platform where theory met practice, challenging participants to transform classroom knowledge into tangible, real-world applications.
A total of 31 teams participated in the competition, each eager to showcase their engineering skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. The event formally commenced with opening remarks from Keziah Lovelydel Baldivia, Event Head of CONNECT, who emphasized the importance of innovation, teamwork, and adaptability in shaping future engineers.
Following the orientation on competition mechanics and bridge specifications, participants entered the planning phase, where they were given 30 minutes to conceptualize their bridge designs. This was immediately followed by the construction phase, during which teams were allotted three hours to build their bridges using provided materials such as balloon sticks, popsicle sticks, yarn, and scissors.
The much-anticipated testing phase evaluated each bridgeโs structural integrity and performance. Initial measurements of width and length were conducted before subjecting the bridges to incremental loading. Weights were applied in 1-kilogram increments every five seconds, pushing each structure to its limits. The loading process was halted once any of the following conditions were observed: evident structural collapse, deflection reaching or exceeding 50 mm, or any unsafe condition as determined by the organizers.
To determine the winners, the Structural Performance Index (SPI) was utilized. This comprehensive metric considered each bridgeโs load-bearing capacity, self-weight, and deflection under stress, ensuring a fair and technical evaluation. The team with the highest SPI emerged as the champion.
After an intense and exciting competition, Team Bridgertons was hailed as the champion with an SPI of 22.335, followed by Team Beamby as 1st runner-up with an SPI of 17.667, and Team DisKayaFamily as 2nd runner-up with an SPI of 17.038.
Beyond the competition itself, CONNECT highlighted the importance of applying engineering principles in practical settings. It encouraged participants to push the boundaries of their learning while contributing to the vision of developing resilient and eco-friendly infrastructure. The event became a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and the promising future of civil engineering.
As the opening event of CONVER5E, CONNECT set the tone for a convention rooted in excellence, sustainability, and the continuous pursuit of engineering advancement.
