Atty. Jaime Santiago, who has an extensive work background in law enforcement and the judiciary, has recently been appointed as the new director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Atty. Santiago completed his Criminology degree at the Philippine College of Criminology in 1988. This criminology education equipped him with the knowledge and skills essential for his future career in law enforcement and the judiciary.

Atty. Santiago started his career in law enforcement as a Patrolman at the then-Philippine Constabulary (precursor of the Philippine National Police) in the Western Police District in 1979. There, he gained invaluable experience in criminal investigation and law enforcement operations, which laid a solid foundation for his subsequent roles in the judiciary and prosecution. The film "SPO4 Santiago: Sharpshooter" based on his life and career at the PNP, was released in 1996.

Atty. Santiago furthered his career prospects by completing a law degree and passing the Bar. He then served as a trial court judge in the cities of Manila and Tagaytay, where he earned a reputation for his fair and judicious handling of cases. Before his tenure as a judge, he was an assistant city prosecutor at the Department of Justice from 2003 to 2006, where he played a crucial role in prosecuting a wide array of criminal cases.

Atty. Santiago is expected to bring his significant expertise and leadership to the NBI, enhancing the bureau's capabilities in investigating and solving crimes. His deep understanding of both the legal and investigative processes position him well to lead the NBI in its mission to uphold the rule of law and ensure justice in the Philippines.
