𝗜𝗦𝗞𝗢 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗦 | PLM Suspends Face-to-Face Classes on Tuesday, September 24, Shifts to Online Due to Transport Strike

The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) has granted the request of the PLM Supreme Student Council (SSC) to shift classes online, following a proposal to the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA) due to the anticipated transport strike.

Face-to-face classes will be suspended tomorrow. 𝗛𝗼𝘄𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿, 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽/𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝘂𝘁𝘆, 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲, 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆.

Despite the suspension of face-to-face classes, PLM offices will remain open and operational tomorrow.

𝗜𝗦𝗞𝗢 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗦 | The PLM Supreme Student Council has submitted a letter of request to the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA), proposing a shift to online classes tomorrow in response to the anticipated transport strike. This request is aimed at ensuring the safety and convenience of all students and faculty members who may be affected by the strike.

In celebration of “Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day”, work and face-to-face classes in PLM is suspended starting 3:00pm tomorrow, September 23, 2024.

Exempted from the suspension is the College of Medicine and College of Nursing internship at Ospital ng Maynila.

At Setyembre 21, ika-52 anibersaryo ng Batas Militar, magtungo sa Liwasang Bonifacio nang ika-9 nang umaga upang ipakita ang lakas ng nagkakaisang masang kayang patalsikin ang anumang pasistang rehimen.

This coming Friday, September 20, 2024, the PLM Supreme Student Council calls on the PLM administration, students, and staff to wear black in solidarity with the victims of Martial Law, especially in honor of the martyrs of Pamantasan: Liliosa Hilao, the Acebedo brothers, and Archimedes Trajano. These brave individuals stood against tyranny, sacrificing their lives for freedom and justice.

We do not only mourn those who suffered under Martial Law, but we also take a stand for justice, truth, and human rights. Our collective memory of these dark times serves as a reminder that the fight for democracy and freedom is ongoing. We must stand firm against any attempt to undermine these principles.

Wearing black represents more than mourning—it symbolizes our resistance against oppression, our commitment to remembering the truth, and our demand for accountability.

We also encourage everyone to join us for a Candle Lighting Ceremony at the PLM Freedom Wall, happening at 1 PM this Friday.

Let us unite in remembrance, resistance, and a collective stand for justice.

Para sa kapwa, para sa bayan, para sa kinabukasan.

Sa paggunita ng pandaigdigang Araw ng Demokrasya, isang paalala ng mga sakripisyo ng mga patuloy na lumalaban para sa tunay na kalayaan na tinatamasa natin ngayon. Ngunit ang tanong ay mayroon nga bang tunay na demokrasya sa ating bansa? para ba ito sa lahat, o para lamang sa iilan? Ito ba’y isa na lamang ilusyon? Sa harap ng aktibong pagsupil sa mga karapatan ng mga estudyante at mamamahayag, sa umiiral na Anti-Terror Law, at sa walang-tigil na pagpapatahimik sa sinumang bumabatikos sa mga nasa kapangyarihan, malinaw na malayo pa tayo sa tunay na demokrasya. Ang mga hakbang na ito ay hindi lamang banta, kundi tahasang pang-aapi sa karapatang pantao na magpahayag at lumaban para sa tunay na kalayaan.

Mula sa mga estudyanteng patuloy na inaapi ng mga administrasyon ng unibersidad at kabi’t kabilang atake at red-tagging, hanggang sa mga mamamahayag na ipinakulong sa gawa-gawang kaso, ginigipit, at pinaslang dahil sa paglalantad ng katotohanan, pati ang nakakakilabot na epekto ng Anti-Terror Law na ginagamit upang supilin ang mga bumabatikos at ituring ang lehitimong aktibismo bilang terorismo—lahat ng ito ay mga nagbabadyang banta sa demokrasya.

Ang ating bansa ay lantarang nagsasabing tayo ay nakapailalim sa isang demokrasya. Ngunit ang isang demokrasya ay hindi lamang nasusukat sa pagkakaroon ng halalan o ng mga pinunong halal ng bayan. Ito’y isang proseso ng pakikibaka at paglaban para sa tunay na representasyon ng masa, isang kalayaang nag-uugat sa kolektibong pagkilos at hindi lamang sa mga papel na nakasulat sa batas. Ang mga neoliberal na polisiya na sumasagka sa karapatang pantao, ang paglaganap ng disimpormasyon, at ang sistematikong atake sa malayang pamamahayag ay malinaw na senyales ng pagbagsak ng demokratikong mga pamantayan. Kapag ginagamit ang institusyon ng gobyerno para patahimikin ang mga kritiko, at kawalan ng ligtas na espasyo para sa mga kabataan, ang demokrasya ay isang ilusyon lamang.

Sa lahat ng nagbabadyang banta at paniniil, ang demokrasya ay nabubuhay sa tapang ng mga ordinaryong mamamayan na patuloy na lumalaban at walang takot na naninidigan. Ang araw na ito ay hindi lamang simpleng paalala, kundi isang panawagan para sa mas maigting na pagkilos ng masa. Ipinapakita ng kolektibong pagkilos na ang tunay na kapangyarihan ay nasa kamay ng sambayanan, hindi ng iilang naghahari. Sa araw na ito, ating kinikilala ang hindi matitinag na legasiya ng mga nag-alay ng buhay para sa demokratikong prinsipyo—at higit sa lahat, ito’y pagkakataon upang patatagin ang ating determinasyon na ipaglaban ang ating mga karapatan at kalayaan laban sa anumang tangkang supilin ito.

Sa kabataan, mga iskolar ng bayan, ito'y isang panawagan—huwag tayong magpatinag at huwag hayaang patahimikin ang ating mga boses. Tayo ang pag-asa ng bayan, at hindi tayo nag-iisa sa laban na ito, kasama natin ang malawak na hanay ng masa. Ang laban para sa demokrasya ay hindi natatapos sa isang protesta o eleksyon—ito’y patuloy na tunggalian na nangangailangan ng masidhing pagmamatyag, paglubog sa masa, at kolektibong aksyon para sa tunay na pagbabago. Sa gitna ng mga pagtatangkang busalan ang ating mga boses, mas lalong kumilos para sa hustisya, pagkakapantay-pantay, at tunay na kalayaan. HINDI MAAARING PATAHIMIKIN ANG KATOTOHANAN—walang mali sa paglaban, may mali kaya tayo lumalaban. Ang pagbabago ay nasa ating kamay, at hindi ito kusang ibibigay—ipaglalaban natin ito!

Nawa’y ang araw na ito ay magpaalala sa atin na ang tunay na demokrasya ay hindi lamang tungkol sa karapatang bumoto. Hindi kailanman uusbong ang demokrasya hangga’t wala sa masa ang tunay na kapangyarihan at hangga’t patuloy tayong pinapatahimik, ginigipit, at niyuyurakan ang soberanya ng ating bansa.

𝗧𝗨𝗟𝗢𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗦𝗞𝗢𝗟𝗔𝗥: 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗗𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦

Ellen May B. Terciño, a 4th-year BS Nursing student from the College of Nursing at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, recently faced a significant medical emergency. In August 2024, she experienced a seizure, despite being seizure-free since 2005. Her neurologist has requested an EEG and cranial MRI, while her cardiologist has recommended a 2D echo due to chest pains. The total cost for these procedures amounts to almost ₱45,000. She is in urgent need of financial assistance to cover these medical expenses.

Ellen has been a dedicated student, working hard to complete her nursing degree while managing her health condition. Despite her efforts to fight her illness, this unexpected setback has put a strain on her and her family both emotionally and financially. As she faces this challenging time, any amount you can contribute will help her focus on her recovery and continue pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse.

PLM Announces Online Class Setup During Graduation Ceremonies from September 4 to 6

Pursuant to Memorandum Order No. 2024-0902-01 issued by the Office of the President, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) has announced that classes will transition to an online setup during the Commencement Exercises from September 4 to 6, 2024.

During this period, affected classes of faculty members who are required to attend specific graduation sessions of their respective colleges will be conducted asynchronously. Meanwhile, all other classes will continue through synchronous online sessions.

Please be guided accordingly.
