The Philippine Architecture Schools Association General Membership Meeting held last April 14, from 1:00–6:00 PM at the United Architects of the Philippines brought together architecture educators and academic leaders in a meaningful afternoon of collaboration, dialogue, and shared commitment to advancing architectural education in the Philippines. Our guest speakers were PRB ARC Members Hon. Mike Guerrero and Hon. Marly Laraya.

The meeting served as a valuable platform to discuss current initiatives, emerging directions, and collective efforts toward strengthening the future of architecture schools and the profession.

A student from the College of Architecture and Built Environment, Brylle Mari R. Layne, earned international recognition after winning the “Best Overall Project for Cultural Preservation” at the TFT Global Student Design Competition 2026.

Organized by The Filipino Times, the TFT Global Student Design Competition 2026 is an international platform that recognizes outstanding Filipino student talent in architecture and engineering from universities across the world. This year’s competition featured innovative and future-ready concepts from institutions across the Philippines, including the University of San Carlos, Ateneo de Davao University, University of Northern Philippines, Bulacan State University, National University Laguna, Batangas State University, and Divine Word College of Calapan.

Layne’s award-winning project, A Life Along the Banks of Legacy, reimagines the historic riverfront of Vigan as a resilient cultural corridor where heritage, community, and climate adaptation coexist. Inspired by growing up just meters away from the river and witnessing firsthand the devastating effects of flooding on homes and livelihoods, the project transforms personal experience into a design rooted in memory, resilience, and renewal.

Rather than simply preserving what time has faded, the proposal raises a deeper question: how can architecture protect what is vulnerable while allowing culture to continue evolving? Through adaptive public spaces, heritage-driven programming, and climate-responsive design, the concept safeguards artisan communities while reconnecting people to the river that once shaped their identity.

The recognition highlights the growing impact of young Filipino designers in addressing real-world social, environmental, and cultural challenges through architecture. It also reflects the competition’s commitment to promoting innovative ideas that merge sustainability, heritage preservation, and community-centered development.

The competition was made possible with the support of the Philippine Architecture Schools Association and a distinguished panel of judges, including Christine Espinosa-Erlanda, Woderick Pareja, Marvin Tejada, Leo Argoso Jr., Elvin Fajutagana, and Rafael Lontoc.

Consistent with the Digitization and Modernization action plan of the Philippine Construction Industry Roadmap 2020–2030, the PDCB is pleased to extend this invitation to your organization to participate in a Free Webinar on Building Information Modeling for Quantity Surveying (BIM QS), to be conducted via Zoom on 16–17 May 2026 (Saturday–Sunday).

The webinar is offered by Glodon Company Ltd., a digital construction solutions provider, using its Cubicost TAS Software. Licenses and installers will be provided to all registered participants free of charge. Upon completion and passing of the Cubicost TAS Quiz on the
final day, participants will receive a certificate of completion.

This activity is particularly relevant for: Quantity Surveyors, Cost Engineers, Cost Estimators, Civil Engineers, and other construction professionals involved in project cost management and digital take-off. Academic faculty and students in construction-related programs are likewise encouraged to participate.
