This first of May, we commemorate Labor Day, which started the first ever celebrated Labor Day in the Philippines in 1903, where a global action involving 150 countries standing in solidarity with workers' movements paved the way for a militant change for the workers' union. This is the time when workers collectively fight for fair wages, humane working conditions, and respect for basic rights.

Historically, through militant unionism, victories such as the 8-hour workday, wage increases, and other benefits are now recognized as rights and made possible by consistent protests and asserting militancy. In the face of contractualization, red-tagging, fascism, and US imperialist intervention comes the clear call for the stop of imperialist war that brings women, children, workers, and peasants to bear the burden.

Labor Day is not merely a celebration, but rather, an important reminder to keep being militant amidst the struggle of letting the working classes lead the country's means of production.
