Did you know that an average family uses about 60 plastic bags in just four grocery trips? These bags are made from fossil fuels, are rarely recycled, and do not fully break down. Instead, they turn into microplastics that contaminate our water, food, and even our bodies.

Although plastic bags are convenient, they come with serious environmental and economic costs. They clog drainage systems, harm animals, and contribute to pollution that communities spend millions to manage.

The good news is that simple actions like using reusable bags can greatly reduce this impact.

As one, the PNU Chemical Society encourages everyone to take part in protecting our environment by making mindful and sustainable choices every day. Together, we can move as one toward a cleaner and greener future.

Last January 31 2026,, the PNU Chemical Society successfully held its General Assembly, bringing together members for a meaningful and inspiring celebration of unity and purpose. The event was highlighted by insightful takes from our esteemed guest speakers, who shared their memorable experiences as former members of the organization and reflected on their journey as professional teachers.

Through their stories, they reminded us that ChemSoc is more than just an academic organization but rather is a training ground for leadership, resilience, and service. Their experiences spoke of growth, challenges, and the passion for chemistry education that continues to shape their careers today.

Members actively participated in engaging activities designed to strengthen collaboration within the society. The assembly became a space not only for learning but also for reconnecting with the organization’s legacy and vision

As we move forward, this General Assembly stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of ChemSoc, a community built on shared experiences, mentorship, and dedication to excellence in chemistry education.

Last December 06, 2025, researchers from the Bachelor in Science with Specialization in Chemistry (BSciE - CHEM) of the Philippine Normal University - Manila bagged the 2nd place in the NanoHubs’ Nanotech Congress: Research Pitching.

Researchers Ashnifa Hayani A. Alonto, Vince Iverson Cedric A. Delos Reyes, and Ryann C. Jayme had secured their placement for their study titled “Green Synthesis of Silver–Copper Bimetallic Nanoparticles Using Coconut (Cocos nucifera) Shell Extract: Characterization and In Vitro Antioxidant Activity.”

Along with other researchers from Bansud National High School Regional Science High School in MIMAROPA, Araullo High School, Tanza National Comprehensive High School Senior High School, and Manuel G. Araullo High School, the researchers had demonstrated innovation, scientific rigor, and a strong commitment to sustainable research practices.

This achievement reflects their dedication, perseverance, and passion for scientific inquiry. May this accomplishment serve as an inspiration for them to continue pursuing excellence, advancing knowledge, and contributing meaningful and environmentally responsible research to the scientific community.
