Dennis Uy and it close ties with the President

Dennis Anthony Uy is a Davao based business man and entrepreneur who is the co founder, chairman, CEO and President of the Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. One of the country’s major independent petroleum retailers. And also the Chairman and President of the Udenna Corporation that is in the field of distribution and retail of petroleum products and lubricants through its subsidiary Chelsea Logistics Holdings Corporation (CLC). Real estates, property development, education, leisure, gaming and tourism and infrastructures are included in the business portfolio. Building a consortium together Udenna Corp. and its subsidiary, Chelsea Logistics Holdings Corporation together with China Telecommunication Corporation called Mindanao Islamic Telephone company as the country’s third newest telecommunication player. Uy has been one of the country’s most productive business man, contributing and founding numerous big companies inside and out of the country, that lead to his association with President Rodrigo Duterte as Uy is a supporter, a local partner of the President, and had appointed him as his special sports adviser.

Dennis Uy is said to be one of President Duterte’s Top contributors and supported the President in the 2016 Presidential race and had donated P 35.5 million on the latter part of the campaign data gathered by GMA News Research show. Uy had close ties with President Duterte that is allegedly the reason for the selection of Mislatel as the third telco company going against Globe Telecom and PLDT, Inc- Smart Communications. But presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that the President does not interfere when it comes to the concerns of the departments which includes the committees of departments under the executive branch.
"So the President has nothing to do with any of those bidding, any of those negotiations or contracts. That’s the policy of the President and it holds until the end of his term," Panelo told the reporters. (Philstar, 2018)

Panelo added that whether Duterte and Uy are friends or not, it has nothing to do with winning bid for the 3rd telco player in the country. And Duterte did not interfere with the bidding process of the 3rd telco player selection process.

Uy is indeed at the peak of his business career, now that he had entered in the telco business, his empire continues to grow more and adds to his venture.

-

Dennis Uy had proven that he had built and reached success long before President Duterte came into the picture. Mislatel winning as the 3rd Telco player in the country is an evidence the unending success of the businessman and had nothing to do with his relationship with the current President of the Philippines.

Is going abroad the only solution? According to OUMWA's (Office of the Underscretary for Migrant Workers Affairs) foreign service officer Atty. Sumagsay, if money is the OFWs' primary consideration then it justifies why they go out. But the government is doing everything to keep up with other countries to increase our wages, to provide more opportunities especially the technical sector.
