SSC Manila’s Statement on the National Situation
(September 2025)
As a Benedictine educational institution, guided by the Rule of St. Benedict and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, St. Scholastica’s College Manila stands firmly against corruption in all its forms. Corruption fundamentally contradicts the Benedictine values of integrity, justice, humility, and service to others that define our mission as followers of Christ and St. Benedict.
Corruption in the Philippines undermines our democracy, weakens public trust, and hampers sustainable development. It diverts resources meant for education, healthcare, and infrastructure, leaving many Filipinos, particularly the poor and marginalized, deprived of their fundamental rights. Corruption erodes institutional integrity and creates an uneven playing field where influence prevails over the common good.
The battle against corruption requires collective action from all sectors of society. Transparency, accountability, and the rule of law must be upheld without exception. Citizens have both the right and moral responsibility to demand ethical governance and expose corrupt practices. Through prayer, reflection, and communal support, we commit to upholding a culture of transparency and justice, trusting God’s grace to transform hearts and systems. We believe education grounded in Gospel values plays a crucial role in strengthening moral values and empowering communities to resist corruption.
The fight against corruption is our shared mission to build a just and equitable Philippines, where every person’s dignity is honored and public life reflects Christ’s love and the wisdom of St. Benedict. By living out these Benedictine values with courage and vigilance, we reject corruption and embody a community of hope, service, and righteousness, a true witness to the Gospel in our nation. We pray that our efforts, united with all the people of goodwill, may contribute to the moral and spiritual renewal of our beloved Philippines, building a society where justice and righteousness flourish.
In the spirit of St. Benedict’s call to “listen with the ear of the heart,” we commit ourselves to this sacred work of transformation, imbued with the courage to work for justice where it is due.
