Dominica, The Gambia and Niue are the latest additions to the ITF’s Flags of Convenience (FOC) list — bringing the total to 48.

A FOC vessel is one flying the flag of a country other than its actual ownership. This undermines accountability and leads to seafarer exploitation.

“If you take registration fees, you must protect seafarers’ rights — and the ITF is watching,” says ITF Inspectorate Coordinator Steve Trowsdale.

The FOC campaign has been holding registries to account since 1948 and we’ll continue to defend seafarers wherever they work.

⚓️An ITF Inspector was assaulted while she was defending crew rights onboard the MV BF CARP in Le Havre. Violence and intimidation have no place in shipping — especially when inspectors are doing their job enforcing international standards and responding to crew complaints.

We stand with our inspectors and with all seafarers who speak up for safe working conditions.✊
