The Philippine Normal College (PNC) Batch 1976 gathered on October 11, 2025, for a heartfelt reunion that became a celebration of both enduring friendship and cherished memories. The event also marked a special occasion honoring Mrs. Nenita Magpayo Tee, surrounded by her beloved husband and classmates. The atmosphere of the gathering was calm and sophisticated, yet filled with warmth, laughter, and heartfelt camaraderie. The reunion of the Philippine Normal College Laboratory School (PNCLS) Batch 1979 and 1983 stood as a symbol of one family whose bonds remained strong despite the passing of time. Held on October 18, 2025, the event opened with a campus tour that allowed participants to revisit meaningful spaces within the university. The familiar surroundings evoked memories of simple joys, youthful dreams, and the early foundations of their character. The tour was followed by a small fellowship filled with various games, shared meals, laughter, and conversations that seemed endless. Every moment reflected a collective appreciation for friendships that have endured across decades.

The celebration honored a journey that began in their elementary and secondary years and continued into the present, with members coming from different parts of the Philippines and from various countries abroad. Their homecoming represented a return to the people who witnessed their beginnings and to the institution that shaped their values. It also served as a reminder that success is not only measured by personal achievements but also by the relationships that continue to uplift and inspire.

The reunion highlighted the resilience of their bond and the profound comfort found in reconnecting with individuals who shared the same classrooms, hallways, and childhood aspirations. The Philippine Normal College Laboratory Elementary School (PNCLES) Batch 1975 returned to the Philippine Normal University on November 29, 2025, for a special reunion held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The gathering brought together classmates who had shared their formative years within the elementary department of the former Philippine Normal College. Many participants traveled from various parts of the Philippines and from other countries, which reflected the enduring importance of the memories and relationships formed during their childhood.

The homecoming began with a guided tour of the university grounds. This allowed attendees to revisit familiar locations and reflect on experiences that had shaped their early academic journey. The group first met at the Alumni and Public Relations Hall before proceeding to sites that held particular significance in their elementary years. A meaningful highlight of the tour was the visit to their former classrooms, which are now part of the Faculty Building. The visit inspired a deep sense of nostalgia and reminded the group of the lessons, friendships, and moments that marked their youth.

The batch continued the tour through the Alumni Walk, a project of the Alumni Relations Office that honors generations of PNU graduates. This location symbolized their unity as former classmates and affirmed their collective pride as members of the PNU community. The group also visited the university church, the library, and the University Clinic. These stops offered a reflective journey through both historic and contemporary areas of the campus.

Before concluding the event, the participants gathered at the university grounds and court for a commemorative photo session. This final moment captured the essence of their reunion and represented their commitment to preserving long-standing friendships. It also illustrated the strength of the bond that PNCLES Batch 1975 continues to uphold, regardless of the passage of time.

The decision to hold this gathering, even with many members traveling from abroad, demonstrated their sincere desire to reconnect with one another and to honor the institution that shaped their early educational foundation. The Philippine Normal University (PNU), through its Alumni Relations Office led by Dr. Maria Glenda O. De Lara, successfully convened more than 600 alumni from across the globe for an international webinar on Universal Design and Innovation held on November 22, 2025, via Zoom and Facebook Live. With the theme “Learning Without Limit: Reimagining Classrooms Through Universal Design and Innovation,” the event reaffirmed PNU’s longstanding commitment to fostering inclusive, future-ready education.

A key highlight of the webinar was the presentation of Dr. Ma. Bernadette Andres-Salgarino, Vice President for Australia and Asia of the PNU Global Alumni Association, President of the California Math Council, and STEAM Catalyst for Equity and Inclusion Awardee of the Amerika Prestige Awards. In her talk, Dr. Andres-Salgarino underscored the critical role of Universal Design for Learning and STEAM-oriented pedagogies in shaping adaptive, critical, and creative learners. She emphasized the need for culturally responsive, technology-enhanced, and learner-centered strategies to ensure equitable access to quality education.

The program opened with a welcome message from Dr. Denmark L. Yonson, Vice President for Student Success and Stakeholder Services, who called attention to PNU’s mission of advancing inclusive excellence. This was followed by an audio-visual message from University President Dr. Bert J. Tuga, who reaffirmed the university’s dedication to educational innovation and global competency.

To reflect the breadth of the PNU alumni network, Ms. Daniela Baruman of the Alumni Relations Office introduced participants from various regions and batches worldwide. The resource speaker was introduced by Ms. Cely De Sagun-Anuran, President of PNU Batch 1966 International, who highlighted Dr. Andres-Salgarino’s extensive scholarly contributions and global leadership.

In her closing message, Dr. De Lara expressed gratitude to the speaker, university officials, technical partners, and attendees for their support. She also reiterated the Alumni Relations Office’s commitment to strengthening connections among graduates and promoting lifelong learning.

The webinar not only deepened the sense of identity within the PNU alumni community but also encouraged the integration of equity-driven, innovative practices in diverse educational settings. Rev. Fr. Roque Aristotle Bustria Padama is a servant of faith and wisdom who has wholeheartedly dedicated his life to the service of God and His people. As one of the Superiors of the Capuchin Friars Minor in the Philippines, he is currently assigned to the Parish and National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in Retiro, Quezon City, where he fulfills his role as Attached Priest and Superior of the Local Fraternity, guiding not only the spiritual life but also the communal life of the faithful.
His journey of excellence began at the Philippine Normal University, where he graduated cm laude in 1998 with a Bachelor of Secondary Education degree, majoring in Physics. In the same year, he ranked 4th in the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers. Soon after, he was recognized as Most Outstanding Teacher of the Year at Dasol Catholic School in Pangasinan, where he taught Physics and General Science.
Yet beyond the promise of a flourishing teaching career, he heeded the call of God. In 2000, he entered the seminary and later obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Education. His academic pursuit did not end there—he earned a Master of Arts in Applied Psychology from Centro Escolar University in 2006, graduating with the Highest Academic Distinction and receiving the Excellence in Research Award. He would go on to devote himself to the human formation of Capuchins and seminarians from various countries. In 2021, he was appointed Director of the Capuchin Human Formation Office (CHFO), tasked with providing psychological services to seminarians across the globe.
In 2014, he was ordained a priest after graduating summa cm laude in both his Bachelor of Arts in Theology and Master of Arts in Theology at the Divine Word Seminary in Tagaytay. His formation was enriched by pastoral immersion with Lumad, Muslim, and Christian communities in Zamboanga Sibugay, as well as participation in the Franciscan Dialogue Program in North Cotabato.
As a Capuchin priest, he assumed key leadership roles at Lourdes School of Mandaluyong (2014 - 2021) and Lourdes School Quezon City (2021 - 2024), where he served as Campus Minister, Vice Rector, High School Principal, and Rector. His leadership extended far beyond the pursuit of academic excellence—it was anchored in service to the community. He reached out to orphans, the elderly, and prisoners, and actively joined coastal clean-ups and medical missions, ensuring that faith was not confined within school walls but translated into concrete acts of compassion.
Rev. Fr. Padama is a leader close to the hearts of students, parents, teachers, and parishioners alike. His presence and attentiveness have greatly contributed to the spiritual and intellectual growth of the communities he serves. Beyond his pastoral and academic work, he continues to strengthen Philippine education as an accreditor-member of the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU) since 2019.
Ultimately, Rev. Fr. Padama is not merely a priest, teacher, or administrator. He is a living testament that true service is not measured by titles or honors, but by the depth of one’s commitment to God and to others. In his life shines the enduring Franciscan values of humility, compassion, and selfless service—values that continue to illuminate the lives of those he touches.

Her journey began at 𝐏𝐍𝐔 𝐀𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 (now 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐨 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬), where she earned her degree in 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 (BEE-English) in 1994. As a student, she was not only academically committed but also demonstrated outstanding leadership, earning the prestigious 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝.

From the classroom to the central office, Atty. Futalan rose through the ranks with unwavering commitment. She started her career as a classroom teacher and went on to serve as a 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥, 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫 in 𝐍𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐬 𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥, and later as 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 (ASDS) in both 𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 and 𝐃𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲. Her consistent excellence led to her designation as 𝐎𝐈𝐂-𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐈𝐈 of the 𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐮 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 at the DepEd Central Office—while concurrently holding the Schools Division Superintendent position.

What sets her apart is her remarkable drive for continuous growth. While serving full-time as ASDS in Cebu Province, she pursued a law degree, completing it within four years. Her determination paid off when she 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐫 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟐, officially becoming a lawyer.

Atty. Futalan’s story is not only a testament to personal grit but also an inspiration to educators and public servants across the country. The PNU community celebrates her trailblazing path and looks forward to her continued impact in shaping the future of Philippine education.

Pinakamataas na pagpupugay ang iginagawad kay Dr. Ricmar P. Aquino, ng buong pamayanan ng Pamantasang Normal ng Pilipinas para sa kanyang pagkakatalaga bilang bagong Komisyoner ng Komisyon sa Lalong Mataas na Edukasyon (CHED).

Si Dr. Aquino ay dating pangulo ng Isabela State University at pinarangalan din bilang isa sa mga Eminent Alumni ng ating pamantasan.

Sa pagkakatalaga ni Dr. Aquino, siya na ang ikatlong aktibong komisyoner ng CHED na nagmula sa PNU, kasama sina Commissioner Marita R. Canapi at Commissioner Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela.
