🦁 Welcome, New Bedans! You are now officially part of the pride! 🎉
SBCA's Integrated Basic Education (IBED) High School Unit welcomed its new Grade 11 and 12 transferees at the “I-BELONG Program: New Bedans In Town" held at the Tugade Auditorium last Aug 30. The event was filled with inspiring messages, engaging talks, and electrifying performances—setting the stage for these new Bedans to embrace their journey!
From learning the Benedictine Core Values with Mr. Jade Diaz to diving into Bedan history with Ms. Sharon Roque, the new students are well on their way to becoming true Bedans. The high-energy performance of the SBCA Pep Band with the Indian Yell left them excited to immerse themselves in school traditions.
A special shout-out to the Career Counseling and Development Services (headed by Ms. Norie Gesmundo) for organizing all these unforgettable I BELONG programs in all levels! 🦁🔴⚪

She intercedes for us before her Son, Jesus, always pointing us toward Him with gentle love. When the burdens of life feel heavy, remember to run to Mom—she is always waiting with open arms. 🤗🌹

Today, we remember and celebrate the bravery and sacrifices of the men and women who fought for our nation’s freedom and sovereignty. From the well-known figures in history to the countless unsung heroes whose names may never be written in textbooks, their legacy lives on in the peace and liberties we enjoy today.

When our hearts are attuned to compassion, we begin to echo the true melody of humanity, just as St. Bede the Venerable reminds us. In a world often filled with division, it is through acts of kindness and empathy that we foster unity and understanding. Let us strive to live with compassionate hearts, making each interaction a reflection of love and harmony. 💖
REFLECTIONS ON THE WORD 📖
John 6:60-69
In our Gospel today we hear the conclusion of the “Bread of Life discourse”. The Gospel describes a murmuring crowd unable to accept Jesus’ words. The crowd has dwindled in number, and John no longer references them as Jews but as Jesus’ own disciples.
Just as the larger crowd had struggled with Jesus’ teaching, the disciples also cannot accept Jesus’ words. He responds that only those chosen by the Father will follow Him to the end.
Many of those who had been Jesus’ disciples ceased to follow him, from a crowd of more than 5,000 to only 12 people. Simon Peter’s response to Jesus’ question as to whether those closest to him will also leave, Peter announces, on behalf of all the Twelve, that they have come to believe all that Jesus has taught about himself: Jesus is the one from God in whom they have found the path to eternal life.
This conclusion of the Bread of Life discourse focuses on personal faith in the life of Christian discipleship. Each person must make his or her own judgment about who Jesus is and in doing so determine the way of life that he or she will follow. Each person must respond to the grace of God and confess as his or her own the belief that Jesus is the one from God. Do you believe that this faith will commit you to the path of life that leads to eternal life? To whom shall you go? 🌈☝️

SATURDAYS WITH MARY 🌹
Relating to and following Mary’s virtue of humility in our daily struggles, especially when we feel defeated and our pride is at stake, can be challenging but deeply transformative. Here’s how we can draw inspiration from her example:
1. Embrace God's Will with Trust: 🌹
When we feel defeated or challenged, it’s natural to want to assert control or resist the situation. However, like Mary, we can choose to accept God’s will, trusting that He has a greater plan, even when we don’t fully understand it. This involves surrendering our desire for control and allowing God to guide us, just as Mary did when she said, "Be it unto me according to thy word" (Luke 1:38).
2. Respond with Silence and Prayer: 🌹
In moments of defeat or when our pride is wounded, our first instinct might be to defend ourselves or lash out. Mary, however, teaches us the power of silence and reflection. By turning to prayer instead of reacting impulsively, we can gain the strength to face our struggles with grace. This silent contemplation helps us to align our thoughts with God’s will, enabling us to respond with humility rather than pride.
3. Serve Others Despite Personal Struggles: 🌹
Even in times of personal hardship, Mary focused on serving others, as she did when she visited Elizabeth after learning of her own extraordinary role. Following her example, we can seek opportunities to help others, even when we feel low. Acts of service can shift our focus from our own struggles to the needs of others, fostering humility and a sense of purpose.
4. Recognize God’s Hand in Our Lives: 🌹
Humility involves recognizing that all we have and all we are comes from God. When we feel defeated, it’s easy to fall into self-pity or prideful self-defense. However, Mary’s Magnificat teaches us to acknowledge God’s greatness and mercy, even in difficult times. By remembering that our worth comes from God, not from our achievements or the approval of others, we can maintain humility and find peace.
5. Trust in God’s Timing: 🌹
Mary experienced many moments where she could have felt confused or overwhelmed—like when she searched for the young Jesus in the temple or when she stood by Him at the Cross. Yet, she trusted in God’s timing and plan. When we face setbacks or feel that our efforts are unrecognized, we can follow Mary’s example by patiently waiting on God, trusting that He will bring good from our struggles in His own time.
6. Let Go of Pride and Embrace Humility: 🌹
Pride often makes us resistant to admitting mistakes or accepting help. Mary’s humility encourages us to let go of our pride, acknowledge our limitations, and seek God’s guidance. In moments of struggle, we can pray for the grace to humble ourselves, admit our need for God’s help, and allow His grace to work through our weakness.
7. Focus on Christ: 🌹
Mary’s ultimate focus was always on her Son, Jesus. In our struggles, instead of fixating on our own failures or wounded pride, we can redirect our focus toward Christ. By following her example, we place our trust in Jesus, knowing that He understands our struggles and offers us the grace to endure them with humility.
By consciously integrating these practices into our daily lives, we can emulate Mary’s humility, even in the face of defeat and pride. This approach not only helps us navigate our struggles with greater peace but also brings us closer to God, who is the source of all true humility and strength. 🙏🙏🙏
Ave Maria!

Today, we celebrate the Queenship of Mary, honoring her as the Queen of Heaven and Earth. Established by Pope Pius XII in 1954, this feast reminds us of Mary's special role in God's plan of salvation and her powerful intercession for us. As the Mother of Christ, the King of Kings, she reigns with love, humility, and grace, guiding us closer to her Son. May we always seek her protection and follow her example of faithful obedience to God's will.

This quote emphasizes that WORK and PRAYER are deeply connected. When we put our heart into our daily tasks, whether it's studying, working, or helping others, we are not just fulfilling our responsibilities—we're also honoring God. By sincerely offering our efforts to Him, we turn our work into a form of prayer, lifting our hearts to God through our humble actions. This reminds us that every task, no matter how small, can be meaningful and spiritually enriching. 👷♂️🕵️♀️🧑💻👨🏫👨🎓🙏

REFLECTIONS ON THE WORD 📖
John 6, 51 - 58
In the Gospel this 20th Sunday, some have difficulty with Jesus’ teaching that he is the living bread sent from God.
Jesus himself is the bread sent by God; His flesh is the bread that is given for the life of the world.
Among the stumbling blocks for those who heard but did not understand Jesus is the teaching that the bread that Jesus will give is his own flesh. Jesus teaches with even greater emphasis that salvation comes to those who eat his Body and Blood. To many ears, Jesus’ words are disturbing and difficult to hear. Many even today continue to struggle to accept these words.
This is the mystery that is at the heart of our eucharistic theology. In the elements of bread and wine, Jesus’ Body and Blood are made truly present. When we share in the Body and Blood of Christ, Jesus himself comes to dwell within us. This communion with the Lord makes us one body, brings us eternal life, and sends us forth to be Christ’s body for the life of the world. 🕯️☀️🌍

Reflections by Fr. Rolo Alcasid, SDB
SATURDAYS WITH MARY 🌹(AUSCULTA!):
Our Blessed Mother Mary is a profound model of humility. Through her life and actions, she teaches us several important lessons about this virtue:
1. Acceptance of God's Will: 🌹
Mary's humility is most evident in her response to the Angel Gabriel during the Annunciation. When told that she would bear the Son of God, Mary responded with complete trust and submission to God's will, saying, "Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word" (Luke 1:38). Her willingness to accept God's plan, despite the uncertainties and potential challenges, reflects deep humility.
2. Service to Others: 🌹
After the Annunciation, Mary immediately went to visit her cousin Elizabeth, who was also expecting a child. Despite carrying the Savior in her womb, Mary focused on serving others rather than seeking attention for herself (Luke 1:39-56). This act of selflessness shows that true humility involves putting others' needs before our own.
3. Acknowledgment of God's Greatness: 🌹
In her Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55), Mary glorifies God, acknowledging that all the great things in her life come from Him. She does not boast about her role as the Mother of God but instead praises God's mercy and power. This teaches us that humility involves recognizing that all our gifts and achievements come from God, not from our own efforts.
4. Silent Strength: 🌹
Throughout her life, Mary displayed quiet strength and humility. She pondered the events of Jesus' life in her heart (Luke 2:19, 51) and remained a faithful disciple, even standing at the foot of the Cross during His crucifixion (John 19:25). Mary's silence and inner reflection show that humility often involves quietly trusting God in all circumstances, even when we do not fully understand His plan.
5. Role as a Mediator: 🌹
Even as the Mother of God, Mary does not seek to draw attention to herself. Instead, she directs us to her Son, as seen at the Wedding at Cana, where she tells the servants, "Do whatever He tells you" (John 2:5). Mary's humility teaches us that our role is not to seek glory for ourselves but to point others toward Christ.
Mary's humility is a powerful example for us to follow. She teaches us to submit to God's will, serve others selflessly, recognize God's greatness, trust in Him silently, and always direct our lives toward Jesus. Ave Maria! 🌹🌹🌹
Follow us next Saturday on more insights about Mary's virtue of humility and how it relates to us as we face our daily life's struggles and challenges! Viva Maria!
