Rocel A. Apolonio and Anecito C. Jubac Jr. of the FEU Institute of Accounts, Business and Finance Department of Business Administration examined leadership inclinations across a multigenerational workforce and whether generational cohort is a predictor of leadership inclination.

Their analysis of responses from 386 participants across various organizations reveals that generational cohort does not significantly predict leadership inclination, however it suggests that Generations Y and Z tend to favor more modern, inclusive, and ethical leadership styles compared to Generation X and Baby Boomers.

Ms. April Joy Dopeno of the FEU Manila - Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management Department of Tourism Management used the United Nations World Tourism Organizationโ€“DEVCO tourism value chain model to map out the presence and roles of informal actors across transportation, food and beverage, handicraft, leisure, excursion, tours, and support services, revealing how these segments contrast with the minimal or absent informality in accommodation and destination assets.

Their analysis further uncovers how Binondoโ€™s fragmented tourism value chain is shaped by gaps in perception between decision-makers and economic actors, resistance to change among informal enterprises, and the scarcity of data needed for evidence-based policymaking. Their research also proposes policy options for the City of Manila such as mainstreaming a whole-of-locality approach, strengthening value chain mapping, building formalโ€“informal linkages, developing shared infrastructure, and employing a regulatory sandbox model to support inclusive tourism development.

Our recent URC REFINE session unpacked the growing role of AI in academic writing and the importance of setting clear ethical guidelines.

AI is now part of academic writing, but its use requires caution, transparency, and adherence to ethical standards. While it can enhance clarity and coherence, it should never replace human expertise in producing original insights or scientific conclusions. As researchers, we carry the responsibility to safeguard the integrity of knowledge by using AI wisely and understanding the policies that guide its use. AI is here to stay but how we choose to use it will determine its role in the future of research.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in advancing responsible research practices!

Stay tuned for our next URC REFINE Session!

Mr. Earl Adriane Cano and his students of the FEU Institute of Health Sciences and Nursing, Department of Nursing, explores the structural and functional diversity of the dengue virus envelope (E) protein across its four serotypes (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4) through computational analysis.

His team employs multiple sequence alignment, physicochemical characterization, and secondary and tertiary structural comparison to find the differences in infectivity, stability, and host binding potential among serotypes. The results of this computational study contribute to a deeper molecular understanding of E proteins and emphasize the need for further characterization studies to fully understood the diversity within each serotype.
