Dr. Acance on the 5th metatarsal fractures: Management of 5th metatarsal fractues, known for high rates of nonunion, remains controversial. Casting is effective while surgery shortens time to union and return to work, necessitating individualization of treatment.

02/09/2023

Dr. Visperas on Talar Fractures: Keep in mind the unique anatomy of the talus and how it affects your surgical technique. High complication rates of talar fractures does not mean you should not do your best to achieve anatomic reduction.

02/09/2023

Dr. Alpuerto on Ankle Fractures: Ankle fractures are common injuries and present with specific patterns. These are commonly managed surgically with the goal of restoring anatomy and stability.

02/09/2023

Dr. Estil on Plantar Fasciitis: Plantar fasciitis is a self-limiting condition where nonsurgical options are done first and surgical release is considered if symptoms persist after 6-12 months.

02/09/2023

Dr. Valdez on Stress Fractures: Tibial stress fractures and MTSS have similarities, both warranting investigation of extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Management is mainly conservative and rarely surgical.

02/09/2023

Dr. Ganal-Antonio on Lumbar Disc Herniation: Lumbar disc herniation has various classifications, commonly presenting with radiculopathy. It can be managed conservatively, with steroid injection, or open/endoscopic discectomy.

02/09/2023

Dr. Grozman on Cervical Injuries:
Cervical spine injuries have to be managed as as soon as possible at the ER with basic life support followed by early acute care and definitive surgery within 24 hours post-injury.

02/09/2023

Dr. Dizon on Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy: DCM encompasses all degenerative lesions which compress on the cervical cord, causing long-tract signs. Timing of surgical intervention is critical.

02/09/2023

Dr. Arbatin on Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: AIS is a diagnosis of exclusion. Curve progression risk factors and growth potential have to be identified to guide treatment, involving preoperative planning and appropriate maneuvers to balance the spine.

02/09/2023

Dr. Dela Rosa on Carpal Instability: In the carpus, the distal row is rigid while the proximal row allows motion. Ligaments determine patterns of instability which then follow predictable courses.

02/09/2023

Dr. Handog on Scaphoid Fractures: Check the anatomic snuffbox, dorsal soft spot, and scaphoid tubercle for tenderness. Remember the 6 standard views for scaphoid fracture. Consider surgery for unstable, chronic, or proximal pole scaphoid fractures.

02/09/2023

Dr. Bautista on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:
Carpal tunnel syndrome is not merely a compression of the median nerve but a confluence of symptoms resulting from it. It is best diagnosed in the clinic and best managed with surgery.

02/09/2023

Dr. Estrella on Nerve Injury and Healing:
Early, tension-free repair, aligning fascicles, and neuroma prevention must always be considered in nerve repair, grafting, and transfers.
