The Philippine Normal University Alumni Association, Inc., in partnership with the Alumni Relations Office of the Philippine Normal University (PNU), successfully convened its distinguished graduates for the Grand Alumni Homecoming 2026 on April 26 at the PNU Gymnasium. Anchored to the theme “PNUAA: Celebrating a Glorious Heritage Toward a Life of Service,” the event reaffirmed the University’s enduring legacy as the National Center for Teacher Education and its steadfast commitment to nation-building through transformative education.
The celebration commenced with preliminary activities that fostered reconnection and reflection among alumni across generations. Registration and batch socialization provided opportunities for meaningful engagement, while the Eucharistic Celebration, officiated by Rev. Fr. Viel Bautista, offered a solemn moment of thanksgiving and spiritual grounding for the PNU community.
A ceremonial entrance highlighted the continuity of the University’s alumni network, featuring jubilarians from milestone classes spanning 1961 to 2006. Representing decades of dedicated service, the Blue Sapphire, Diamond, Emerald, Golden, Sapphire, Ruby, Coral, Pearl, Silver, and China jubilarians symbolized the enduring impact of PNU graduates in the field of education and beyond.
The program proper formally opened with the entrance of colors, followed by the National Anthem and doxology led by the PNU Chorale. In her welcome message, the Vice President for Student Success and Stakeholders Services, Dr. Leah Amor S. Cortez, underscored the significance of alumni engagement in sustaining the University’s mission. This was followed by the inspirational message from University President Dr. Bert J. Tuga, who reaffirmed PNU’s leadership in teacher education and called on alumni to remain steadfast in their commitment to excellence, integrity, and service.
A highlight of the event was the keynote address delivered by Hon. Justice Amy C. Lazaro-Javier, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines and a distinguished alumna, whose message inspired participants to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and public service.
The Awards Ceremony served as a significant moment of recognition, honoring alumni whose exemplary contributions have advanced education, leadership, and national development.
National Awardees included Dr. Dexter M. Balajadia, Dr. Boyet L. Batang, Dr. Leah Amor S. Cortez, Dr. Melody J. Patacsil-Cruz, Dr. Violeta Mabazza-Gonzales, Hon. Justice Amy C. Lazaro-Javier, Mrs. Jocelyn A. Navarro, Atty. Ruth De Paz-Nelson, Mrs. Marnelli B. Tolentino, Mr. Romulo P. Oconer, and Ms. Erlinda San Juan. The Couple Award was conferred upon Dr. Ronaldo B. Lara and Mrs. Emely G. Lara.
Meanwhile, Chapter Awardees included Ms. Estrella D. Manigo, Ms. Elsa Ramirez-Encabo, Ms. Emerenciana M. Salazar, and Ms. Cecilia C. Sipin from the PNU Chapter; Dr. Lloyd Tulaylay from the San Juan City Chapter; Ms. Generieve B. Corona from the Caloocan City Chapter; and Dr. Al Ryanne G. Gatcho from the Malabon City Chapter.
The celebration of jubilarians further honored alumni marking milestones from 20 to 65 years since graduation, highlighting not only individual achievements but also the collective legacy of PNU graduates in shaping generations of learners.
The event concluded with a fellowship dinner and social activities that strengthened camaraderie and renewed shared commitments among alumni.
The success of the Grand Alumni Homecoming 2026 was made possible through the invaluable support of various University offices, namely: the Office of the Vice President for Student Success and Stakeholders Services, Events Management Office, Presidential Management Unit, Strategic Communication and Public Relations Unit, University Library, Administrative Services Management Office, Archives and Records Management Unit, Procurement Management Unit, Safety and Security Management Unit, Supply and Property Unit, University Health Services Unit, Auxiliary Services and Business Development Office, Business and Events Services Unit, Printing and Press Unit, Facilities Management and Sustainability Office, Management Information System, and the Research Management Office.
More than a gathering, the Grand Alumni Homecoming 2026 stood as a testament to the enduring bond among PNU alumni and their unwavering dedication to a life of service—affirming that the true legacy of the University resides in its graduates who continue to inspire, transform, and serve the nation.
