On September 4, 2024, the Office of Student Services hosted an Online Kamustahan with CAS-based organizations, the College of Arts and Sciences Student Council, Ang Tagamasid, CAS Freshmen, Shiftees, and Transferees Council, and the College Electoral Board. This consultation aimed to refine and update the OSS strategic plan with valuable input from these student organizations. Additionally, discussions focused on the upcoming CAS Week and the planned activities for 2024.

The OSS is committed to advancing the CAS mission by fostering a caring and inclusive community. This dedication supports its vision of promoting student partnership and creating a supportive, enriching environment that enhances students’ holistic development and well-being.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan has announced the suspension of classes in all public and private schools at every level, as well as work in local government offices in Manila, for Tuesday, September 3, 2024, due to .

However, offices involved in emergency response, peace and order, and essential health services will remain operational.

Private companies are encouraged to decide on their own regarding work suspension.

Additionally, Memorandum Circular No. 63 from the Office of the President also suspends classes in public schools and government work in NCR and Region 4-A on September 3.

As the school year 2024-2025 begins today, Ang Tagamasid—the official student publication of the UP Manila College of Arts and Sciences (CAS)—will be selecting a new Editor-in-Chief to continue its mission of serving its constituents the objective truth and critical analyses. After an internal opening of applications for the Editor-in-Chief position, one heeded the call and accepted the challenge to lead the publication.

Jeandair Benedicto, a 4th Year BA Philippine Arts student, is the outgoing Associate Editor of the publication. Prior to this stint, Benedicto has served as the Cultures Editor and as a Cultures staffer to AT.

Benedicto will undertake the examination on August 25th wherein her capabilities across writing and design will be evaluated, and will be promoted to the position if she meets the minimum score set by the publication for sole examinees.

The College of Arts and Sciences warmly invites all first-year students to the CAS Freshie Welcoming Assembly on August 19, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The event will be held at the Henry Sy Hall Building, UP College of Medicine. We look forward to seeing you there!

College of Arts and Sciences lecture classes on August 19-20 will be held online via instructors' preferred platforms. This will enable students who are still completing their enrollment to join the classes, with the registration period extended until August 22.

Please note that first-year students will be excused from classes on these dates to attend Welcome Assemblies. The Office of the College Secretary will provide additional details in a separate memo.

The ASEAN University Network on Ecological Education and Culture (AUN-EEC) is organizing a webinar titled “Revisiting the City: A Webinar on the Tensions and Intentions in Urban Sustainability” to be held on 16 April 2024 (Tuesday) at 3:00-5:00pm (Manila/SG time, GMT +8:00) via Zoom.

The webinar will feature two talks. The first will delve into ‘tensions in the city’, or the interplay of forces that exist in the city, such as the tensions between cultural preservation and modernity, and economic progress and environmental conservation. The second will focus on intentions and desires to green and rewild the city, shedding light on the trends in the initiatives of people and organizations in regreening the urban environment. Through these talks, we hope to highlight to the participants that cities are a melting pot of the world’s wicked problems, but through thoughtful decisions of the citizens, continue to play a significant role in advancing sustainability education.
