In 1948, the College of Liberal Arts, which is now known as the College of Science, offered the BS major in Psychology degree program with Fr. Angel de Blas as the first Chairman of the Department of Psychology.

UST psychology alumna Jel Suarez is one of this year’s recipients of the Cultural Center of the Philippines's Thirteen Artists Award.
A self-taught artist, Suarez, who graduated from UST in 2011, was a childhood educator before transitioning to a full-time practice in visual arts, specializing in collage art.

Our Story
After finishing his Ph.D. at the University of Santo Tomas in 1934 Fr. Angel de Blas introduced new methods and devices in the fields of Zoology, Physics, and most especially Psychology in the Philippines in 1938. In 1948, the College of Liberal Arts, which is now known as the College of Science, offered the BS major in Psychology degree program with Fr. Angel de Blas as the first Chairman of the Department of Psychology. In October 1994, the degree program was changed to Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Its objectives are:
1. To train students who can function effectively in the educational, industrial,
and clinical work settings.
2. To promote active research involvement among faculty members and
students.
3. To provide students in other disciplines an understanding of human behavior.
4. To imbue a strong sense of moral and ethical precepts in the practice of the
psychology profession.
At present, it is currently under the leadership of Prof. Maria Claudette A. Agnes, Ph.D.
