ANNOUNCEMENT

In view of the current "Public Health Emergency / Enhanced Community Quarantine" due to the COVID-19, please be advised that the schedule for the July 5, 2020 Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) in the Philippines has been CANCELED.

(Please be advised that payment procedures for JLPT in Metro Manila / Luzon, Cebu/ Visayas, Cagayan de Oro City, and Davao City are thus CANCELED.)

The Japan Foundation, Manila and host institutions (The Japanese Association Cebu, Inc.; Cagayan de Oro College-PHINMA Education Network; and Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku in Davao City) discussed/evaluated and reached unanimous conclusion that it would be difficult to host the JLPT in July under the current circumstances.

Thank you very much for your understanding and we hope that everyone stays safe and well during this difficult situation.

WHITE DAY (ホワイトデー）

Have you ever heard of White Day❤　[howaitodē])? March 14, exactly 1 month after Valentine’s Day, is White Day in Japan.We learned last month that in Japan, women give chocolates or other presents to men on Valentine’s Day.White Day is the day for men to give back to the women that gave them gifts on Valentine’s Day.Traditionally, marshmallows or white chocolate are given (hence the name), but some other common gifts include flowers, jewelry, perfume, and all kinds of sweets.White Day gifts are given to both romantic interests and to female friends or women in the office who gave you 義理チョコ (giri choko – obligatory chocolate) for Valentines day.
It is said that men are supposed to give something 3 times the value of the Valentine’s Day gift that they received. This is called 三倍返し (sanbaigaeshi).
