With deep gratitude and admiration, we congratulate and celebrate 𝐑𝐞𝐯. 𝐅𝐫. 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐨 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐚 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐨, 𝐎.𝐏., 𝐏𝐡𝐃, on his recent conferment as 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐬 by the University of Santo Tomas.

In recognition of his lifelong dedication to education, research, and the advancement of science and philosophy, Rev. Fr. Castillo has been conferred the title of Professor Emeritus in a solemn Conferment Ceremony held on January 31, 2025, at the Dr. Robert C. Sy Grand Ballroom, Blessed Buenaventura Garcia Paredes, O.P. Building. This prestigious distinction, the highest recognition awarded by the University to its academic staff, honors his remarkable contributions to scholarship and his enduring impact on generations of Thomasians.

Fr. Castillo, 𝑎 𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑡 𝑏𝑦 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑓𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑚𝑛𝑢𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑈𝑛𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑜𝑓 𝑆𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑜 𝑇𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑠 (𝐁𝐒 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 '𝟔𝟑), served as the 91st Rector (1982-1990). His service to the Church was further recognized in 2021 when he received the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice award from Pope Francis.

This recognition is a testament to his unwavering dedication to education, profound contributions to scholarship, and steadfast commitment to the pursuit of Veritas in caritate (truth in charity). His legacy of wisdom and service continues to illuminate the academic and spiritual life of our University, reminding us all of the enduring impact of a true educator and servant of God. We pray for his continued strength and blessings as he remains a pillar of wisdom and faith in the Thomasian community.

On December 7, 2024, the Department of Chemistry hosted the 𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝘼𝙡𝙪𝙢𝙣𝙞 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙩 𝙎𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙧 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨: 𝙎𝙪𝙥𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘽𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮. This event, an essential part of the Analytical Chemistry 3 course for third-year BS Chemistry students, featured two distinguished speakers—𝙈𝙨. 𝘽𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚 𝙈. 𝙀𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙘𝙤, Environmental Management Specialist at San Miguel Brewery, Inc., and 𝙈𝙧. 𝙀𝙧𝙧𝙤𝙡 𝘼𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙨, former manager and consultant at San Miguel Food Corp.

Both speakers shared their valuable industry insights, giving students a deeper understanding of chemistry's role in the food and beverage sector. This event also highlighted the importance of connecting students with professionals in various industries and strengthening ties within the alumni community.
