🦪✨ From waste to wonder! ✨🦪

Who knew discarded Charru mussel shells could be more than just waste? These invasive mollusks from Baroy, Lanao del Norte, are being transformed into chitosan—a valuable biopolymer with antibacterial properties! 🦠🔬

Through a three-step extraction process, researchers isolated chitosan, confirming its structure using ATR-FTIR and SEM analysis. This locally derived chitosan showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus but was ineffective against E. coli. The innovative use of chitosan from discarded Charru mussel shells is a step toward a more sustainable and advanced solution for waste management and infection control. 🌍♻️
