Pagbati kay Dr. Mariyel Hiyas C. Liwanag, Board Member ng NLPH at Associate Editor ng Dalumat Journal, sa pagkakamit ng Gawad Balmaseda 2025 mula sa Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino para sa kanyang disertasyon na may pamagat na "Isabuhay: Isang Larong Disenyo para sa Diskurso ng mga Wikang Katutubo.โ€

Ang disertasyon ni Liwanag mula sa DLSU Manila ay nagmula sa kaniyang personal na karanasan bilang g**o ng wika, mag-aaral na patuloy na nagsasagawa ng pananaliksik sa wika at kulturang katutubo, at manlalaro sa isang konsumeristang lipunan. Tinalakay nito ang kanyang sariling pananaw sa value engineering, na inugnay sa konsepto ng mga karapatang pantao sa wika (linguistic human rights). Inilahad din ang kanyang kabuuang posisyon sa disenyo ng laro gamit ang value engineering upang ipakita ang kasaysayan at kalagayan ng wika sa Pilipinas, mula pre-kolonyal na panahon hanggang sa kasalukuyan, batay sa mga akdang tumatalakay sa wika.

Ang Gawad Julian Cruz Balmaseda ay isang prestihiyosong parangal na kinikilala ang pinakamahuhusay na tesis at disertasyon na isinulat sa wikang Filipino, lalo na sa mga larangan ng agham pangkalikasan, agham panlipunan, at matematika. Layunin ng gawad na ito na hikayatin ang pagsusulat at publikasyon ng mga orihinal na akda na makikinabang sa intelektuwalisasyon at modernisasyon ng Filipino.

Following the keynote, the day continued with a series of insightful plenary talks by prominent local speakers. Dr. Teresita Tabbada-Rungduin from the Philippine Normal University addressed the topic of "Future-Proofing Learning Institutions," while Mr. Galvin Radley L. Ngo from Ateneo de Manila University explored the role of "Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Education." Additionally, Ms. Lea S. Abarentos from De La Salle Lipa spoke on "Inclusivity, Diversity, and Equality." These sessions offered a rich blend of perspectives and expertise, contributing to a well-rounded and thought-provoking conference experience.

NLPH kicked off this year's conference with a vibrant opening program. The De La Salle Voices started the event with a moving doxology and a rendition of the Philippine National Anthem. Dr. Merlin Teodosia Suarez, Chancellor of De La Salle Lipa, delivered the opening remarks, extending a warm welcome to all participants and setting a positive tone for the conference. Following her address, Dr. Henry Leen A. Magahis, NLPH Executive President, outlined the conference agenda and energized the audience with an overview of the new and exciting features of this year's program.
