Alumni Give to Furloughed UE Employees via Donation Drive

UE graduates and former students of the University’s Manila and Caloocan Colleges, Graduate School and Basic Education Departments—through the UE Alumni Association Inc. (UEAAI)—have embarked on a donation drive for UE employees who have been on forced leave within the last few months.

Dubbed “maLualhating Tulong Mula sa Alumni: Assistance for Furloughed UE Employees,” the drive has collected a total of P195,000.00 from UEAAI officers and members, with the amount to be earmarked for equal financial assistance to a total of 130 UE personnel of the University’s Manila and Caloocan Campuses who are part of three consecutive batches of furloughed employees. The donation was turned over to UE Management last Monday, May 10, 2021 and was remitted to the affected employees through their respective ATM-based UE pay slip accounts.

Given the considerable decline in its enrollment for school year 2020-2021, the University was constrained to implement cost-cutting measures to remain operational, especially for the student body in the kindergarten, elementary, junior high school, senior high school, college and graduate levels whose education for the outgoing school year has been entirely online and off-campus. As such, three batches of UE employees whose work to date was largely confined to an on-campus setup had to go on forced leave without pay for a total of six months—with the first batch starting their furlough in November 2020, the second batch starting in January 2021, and the third batch starting last February.

The UEAAI, led by Atty. Rosario S. Bernaldo as incumbent President, will continue to accept donations for UE’s furloughed employees. Please coordinate via email to [email protected] or contact Ms. Jocelyn R. Malanum at 0939-285-3399 or Ms. Camille Joy S. Quismorio at 0915-907-2967.
