Salimbagat has joined hands with National University Manila headed by President Dr. Renato Carlos H. Ermita Jr. and the NU Human Resource in partnership with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) as the keynote speaker headed by the COMELEC Chairman Hon. George Erwin M. Garcia to facilitate and promote the essential process of voter registration among the students and staff of National University Manila. This initiative aims to empower the NU community, ensuring that their voices are heard through active participation in the democratic process.

It provides individuals with the opportunity to exercise their right to vote and contribute to shaping the future of our nation. 8-10 February 2024 | Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CBDRRM) Training in Brgy. Real, San Luis, Aurora
The Ready2ACT Project of NU ComEx/National University - NSTP under the leadership of our Director, Ma’am Jenelyn J. Salimbagat unfolded in Barangay Real, San Luis, Aurora, from February 8-10, 2024, with a dedicated focus on Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CBDRRM) Training. The program honed-in on empowering families through the training on Family Emergency and Disaster Preparedness Plan (FEDPP), fostering household preparedness to mitigate the impact of potential disasters.
Participants composed of the barangay functionaries (Brgy Chairperson, Hon. Patrick Shanlee G. Tena and the Brgy Council), community members of different sectors (PWD, Seniors, Solo Parents, Youth, etc), and the children engaged in comprehensive training sessions and workshops that equipped them with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop effective disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster response and disaster rehabilitation and recovery strategies tailored to their specific needs. The initiative aimed not only to enhance individual preparedness but also to foster a sense of community resilience by encouraging collaborative efforts within the barangay. All the participants also received a GoKit and token (rice) as one of the preparedness strategies during disasters and emergencies.
Integral to the project was the conduct of a Focus Group Discussion (FGD), providing a platform for community members to share insights, experiences, and local perspectives on disaster risk reduction. This interactive session facilitated the exchange of valuable information, enabling a more nuanced understanding of the community's unique challenges and strengths in the face of potential disasters.
By integrating practical training on FEDPP and fostering community dialogue through the FGD, the Ready2ACT Project fostered a holistic approach to disaster preparedness. The initiative not only imparted crucial skills to individuals and families but also strengthened the community's collective ability to respond effectively to unforeseen emergencies, contributing to the overall resilience of Barangay Real, San Luis, Aurora.

20 January 2024 | Ready2ACT Program: Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CBDRRM) training for Family Disaster and Emergency Plan (FDEP), A household Preparedness Plan.
On January 20, 2024, the National University-Community Extension/National Service Training Program (NU ComEx/NSTP) NU ComEx National University - NSTP facilitated the Ready2ACT Program took a significant step towards enhancing community resilience in Barangay Bayabas, Doῆa Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan. The focus of the day was on Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CBDRRM), with a special emphasis on the creation of Family Disaster and Emergency Plans (FDEP). This initiative aimed to equip households with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate emergencies and disasters effectively.
The program commenced with active community engagement, fostering a sense of collective responsibility. Residents of Barangay Bayabas actively participated, sharing their experiences and insights, creating a collaborative learning environment.
Participants delved into the fundamental principles of CBDRRM, understanding the specific risks and vulnerabilities present in their community. The session provided a comprehensive overview of the 4 thematic areas of the DRRM: disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster response, and disaster rehabilitation and recovery.
The significance of a Family Disaster and Emergency Plan (FDEP) was emphasized as a crucial component of household preparedness. The training highlighted the role of FDEPs in ensuring the safety and well-being of family members during unforeseen events.
Practical workshops allowed participants to actively create their hazard analysis and mapping. Facilitators guided households through the process, helping them to identify the hazards and the precautionary measures.
A live demonstration showcased the essentials of emergency Gokits, illustrating how basic items such as water, non-perishable food, first aid supplies, and important documents can make a significant difference during emergencies.
The Ready2ACT Program's CBDRRM Training for Family Disaster and Emergency Plans in Barangay Bayabas served as a proactive step towards building a resilient and prepared community. By empowering households with the knowledge and tools necessary for effective disaster preparedness, the program contributes to the overall safety and well-being of the residents.
As the participants left the training equipped with their learnings, the sense of empowerment and readiness within the community was tangible. The Ready2ACT Program stands committed to fostering resilience at the grassroots level, one household at a time.

On December 20, 2023, the spirit of Christmas came alive at National University as the Community Extension (ComEx) and National Service Training Program (NSTP) NU ComEx National University - NSTP jointly hosted a joyous and memorable event—the "Faculty and Employee Christmasayahan." The theme, "Nagkakaisang Pagsalubong sa Pasko ng Taos Puso," set the stage for an evening filled with unity, merriment, and genuine festive cheer.
The Faculty and Employee Christmasayahan served as a beautiful testament to the unity that defines the National University community. Employees gathered in a harmonious celebration, creating an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie that reflected the true meaning of the season.
As a gesture of appreciation, raffle, games and gift exchanging among colleagues was amazing, the spirit of giving and receiving was felt throughout the venue, creating a sense of unity and connection that went beyond the professional realm.

5-7 December 2023 I International Volunteerism Symposium and Volunteer Fair
Presidential Proclamation No. 55 s. 1998 officially designated December of each year as National Volunteer Month (NVM) to build nationwide public awareness and appreciation of volunteerism, create the environment for voluntary action, and recognize volunteers as partners in development.
As one of the highlights of the NVM in celebration of International Volunteer Day (IVD), the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA), as the government agency mandated to promote and advocate volunteerism in partnership with the Australian Volunteers Program (AVP), the Davao Colleges and Universities Network (DACUN), and the University of Mindanao (UM) conducted a 3-day International Volunteerism Symposium and Volunteer Fair last 5 – 7 December 2023 at the University of Mindanao, Matina Campus, Davao City with a theme, “Igniting Volunteer-led Innovation for Deep Economic and Social Transformation”.
The event aims to create a venue for international and local volunteers for knowledge sharing and network building, highlighting the role and contributions of international volunteers in fostering international cooperation, and as a means towards achieving the country’s sustainable development goals. 12 December 2023 I Awarding of the Search for Outstanding Volunteers
As part of the National Volunteer Month (NVM) celebration, National University-Manila Community Extension/ National Service Training Program (NU-Manila ComEx/NSTP) NU ComEx National University - NSTP in the being of our beloved Director, Ma’am Jenelyn J. Salimbagat was included in the list of inductees as National Volunteerism Resource Pool (NVRP) Member. The Induction Ceremony was held during the Awarding of the Search for Outstanding Volunteers event on December 12, 2023 at 10:00AM at the Century Park Hotel Manila.
The National Volunteerism Resource Pool (NVRP) is part of the agency’s initiative to build capacities of public, business, and civil society organizations on volunteer management towards a more conducive environment for volunteering. The creation of the NVRP aims to tap volunteerism experts from National Government Agencies (NGAs), Local Government Units (LGUs), Academe, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Volunteer Service/Involving Organizations (VSOs/VIOs), and independent consultants to help in the advocacy and provide technical assistance in volunteer program establishment and management.

5 – 7 December 2023 I National University's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Seminar/Training with the theme “Apat Dapat, Alam ng Lahat: the Four Thematic Areas of DRRM”
In commemoration of National Volunteer Month, National University's Community Extension NU ComEx and National University - NSTP came together to organize a transformative seminar and training event titled, "Igniting Volunteer-led Innovation for Future Growth and Social Transformation."
This comprehensive activity brought together NSTP students, Community Extension Brigade officers and members, and National University Manila- School Based NSRC Unit officers and members. The event focused on the critical theme of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), aiming to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to a resilient and disaster-prepared community.
The seminar/training program unfolded over dedicated sessions addressing the four thematic areas of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management: Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Disaster Preparedness, Disaster Response, and Disaster Rehabilitation and Recovery. Each thematic area was approached with a unique and innovative workshop format, ensuring active engagement and effective learning.
This successful event was made possible by the dedicated efforts of our facilitators, faculty, employees, and students who actively participated and attended. With much affirmation and acknowledgment to our Resource Speaker Sir Rodrigo Bonzerr S. Lopez and the NSTP Faculty and National University Manila- School Based NSRC Unit & Community Extension Brigade student volunteers for their commitment to learning and their enthusiasm for volunteerism underscore the spirit of National Volunteer Month and our collective responsibility to build a safer and more resilient society.
In line with the seminar/training on DRRM is also showcasing the local products of NU ComEx community partners through their booth:
1. Lingap Pangkabataan Inc. represented by the Sewing Hope and the Shelter Park Youth and Children Organization (SPYCO),
2. Sir Homer of Sab and Steph Household Products, and
3. Tindagat, a fisher-to-market online partner that supports artisanal fishers by giving them opportunities for additional income and providing innovative ways to enhance and sell their goods.
The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Seminar/Training not only provided valuable insights into disaster resilience but also served as a powerful reminder of the positive impact that volunteer-led initiatives can have on communities. As National University continues to champion social responsibility and community engagement, events like these play a pivotal role in shaping future leaders committed to making a difference in the face of adversity.

9 December 2023 I Coastal Clean-up in Brgy. 649 Zone 68 (known as the Baseco Beach)
On the crisp morning of December 9, 2023, Coastal Clean-up spearheaded by the National University-Manila NU ComEx and National University - NSTP as part of the month-long celebration of National Volunteer Month entitled, “Igniting Volunteer-led Innovation for Future Growth and Social Transformation”, and in collaboration with the NU Academic Internship and Placement Office (NU-AIPO), joined forces with esteemed partners—the Local Government Unit of Brgy 649 Z68, the Philippine Reclamation Authority, and the Philippine National Police—to embark on a meaningful journey towards environmental stewardship. The Coastal Clean-up initiative unfolded in Brgy 649 Zone 68, leaving an indelible mark of success and community spirit. From 6 am to 9 am, the shores of Brgy 649 Zone 68 or the Baseco Beach and the PRA protected area became a bustling hive of activity as students (local and foreign), faculty, AIPO representatives, local government officials, and police personnel joined hands to clean up the coastal area. Armed with gloves, garbage bags, and an unwavering commitment to environmental preservation, the volunteers combed the coastline, meticulously collecting plastic waste, debris, and other pollutants that threatened the local ecosystem. Beyond the physical act of cleaning, the Coastal Clean-up served as an educational platform and volunteerism initiative to raise awareness about the impact of pollution on coastal communities.
The Coastal Clean-up of Brgy 649 Zone 68 stands as a testament to the collective impact that can be achieved when academic institutions, government agencies, and local communities unite for a common cause. By the end of the event, the shoreline underwent a remarkable transformation, demonstrating the potential for positive change when we work together.
The Coastal Clean-up initiative not only contributed to the immediate improvement of the coastal environment but also left a lasting impression on the hearts and minds of all involved. This activity served as a beacon of hope and inspiration for future environmental initiatives, showcasing the impact of unity, collaboration, and a shared commitment to a healthier planet.
