As part of its continuing efforts to expand global learning opportunities, the UST Faculty of Pharmacy deployed 43 students to Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia, on June 3, 2026, for an international student mobility program that will run for nearly a month.
The student delegation is composed of 16 Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy students, 15 Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology students, and 12 Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry students. The program is designed to provide participants with international exposure through experiential learning, academic engagement, and research activities.
The BS Pharmacy students will have their Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) hospital rotations, allowing them to observe and participate in various aspects of pharmacy practice within the Malaysian healthcare system. Meanwhile, the BS Medical Technology and BS Biochemistry students will undertake research attachment programs, where they will be exposed to laboratory research, scientific discussions, and collaborative academic activities alongside their Malaysian counterparts.
The delegation is accompanied by Prof. Franelyne P. Casuga, PhD, Program Chair of the UST Department of Pharmacy, and Prof. Maria Ruth B. Pineda-Cortel, PhD, Program Chair of the Department of Medical Technology.
Upon their arrival at UiTM, the UST delegation was warmly welcomed by the administrative and academic officials of the Faculty of Pharmacy, led by Dean Prof. Dato' Dr. Abu Bakar Abdul Majeed. The visit also provided an opportunity for academic leaders from both institutions to convene and discuss ongoing and future collaborative initiatives.
In addition to the activities at UiTM, the academic officials from the UST Faculty of Pharmacy conducted an academic visit to Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to explore potential areas of collaboration with another leading Malaysian institution. During the visit, they met with Prof. Normala Ibrahim, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM, and Prof. Rukman Awang Hamat, Senior Consultant Clinical Microbiologist from the Department of Medical Microbiology of Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah.
These international engagements form part of the UST Faculty of Pharmacy's GO GLOBAL initiatives.
