Dr. Vergel Bungay, Immediate Past President of the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers – Metro Manila Academe Chapter (PIChE-MMAC) and faculty member of De La Salle University Manila, formally concluded his Course Integration class with BS Chemical Engineering students at EARIST-Manila last April 24, 2026.

Under Course Integration, he has been teaching subjects across Inorganic, Analytical, Physical, and Organic Chemistry, leaving students with a strong foundation and renewed inspiration.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Quezon City has reached ⚠️HAZARDOUS levels, as of 4:00 PM, in Unioil Mindanao Ave., Talipapa NB, Quezon City.

This is likely due to an ongoing fire at the Navotas Sanitary Landfill, which is producing heavy smoke affecting air quality across Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

🌫️ Possible Effects
Thick smoke and dangerous air pollution may pose health risks, especially for children, elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.

Fredric E. Alejandro, a 2nd-year BS Chemical Engineering student, proudly clinched the silver finish in the 26th Search for PinakaMATHinik at EARIST last March 13, 2026. His runner-up triumph in the prestigious math showdown highlighted both his individual brilliance and the department’s growing reputation in academic competitions.

The annual PinakaMATHinik contest is known for its rigorous tests of problem-solving and quick thinking, drawing the sharpest minds from across the institution. Alejandro’s strong performance reaffirmed the ability of Chemical Engineering students to excel beyond their core discipline and shine in mathematics.

Supporting his achievement were fellow representatives who also made their mark. David Estanislao advanced as a Top 8 Qualifier, while Jeremiah Panes earned recognition as a Top 15 Qualifier. Meanwhile, Ella Avendaño represented the department in the Quiz Bee segment, adding depth to the team’s participation.

Together, these students showcased the versatility and determination of Chemical Engineering majors. Their collective effort brought pride to the department and reinforced EARIST’s tradition of nurturing excellence across disciplines, proving that their strength extends from laboratories to the competitive stage of mathematics.
