| Wrapped in Florals

To wrap up this year’s Benilde Fashion Museum Corner series, the installation presents the first-ever showcase of a Ramon Valera evening dress. Chosen for its composition that evokes a flower offered as a gift, the piece embraces femininity while echoing the spirit of the holidays.

Featured is a 1958 satin terno with a hand-painted floral skirt embellished with sequins, designed by Ramon Valera (1912 – 1972), the Philippines’ first National Artist for Fashion. It was worn by Linda Garcia Campos, daughter of President Carlos Garcia, and was donated by her son, Carlos Garcia Campos.

The exhibit marks both a year-end reflection and a celebration of the enduring legacy of our outstanding Filipino designers at the Benilde Fashion Museum.

Conducting research, writing, and content development for catalogs, exhibitions, and archives with responsibilities including but not limited to exhibit text, grant proposals, historical timelines, garment descriptions, interviews, and reports.

| A Season in Color

This month’s installation draws from one of the Philippine’s Christmas traditions, the parol, the Filipino lantern that symbolizes Hope through the birth of Christ.

Against a decidedly neutral backdrop, Cesar Gaupo’s vibrant colors, geometric interplay of forms, and layered, sculptural techniques resonate with the parol’s qualities, creating a visual dialogue between design, craftsmanship, and cultural symbolism.

Falling Lace

November marks the season of fall in many parts of the world, and this installation takes inspiration from that imagery: color, starkness, and quiet shifts.

Falling Lace features three of Cesar Gaupo’s black-and-white creations, shaped by lacework, draping, ruching, ruffles, and raw edges that flow like falling leaves, set against the orange hues of the season.

The Benilde Fashion Museum showcases, for November, the creativity of Pitoy Moreno and Ben Farrales, two designers who knew no limits and reshaped the heights of Filipino fashion.

Inspired by the month's release of “Wicked”, this installation draws from the story’s celebrated duality to reflect a moment in our country's fashion history, shaped by two icons of the same era. Contemporaries, Farrales and Moreno each brought their own vision of elegance and innovation, their work standing in quiet dialogue that continues to define Filipino couture today.

For the October showcase, “Midnight Flair” captures Cesar Gaupo’s foray into deep, dark, midnight tones and the sculptural exploration of fabric. The one-shoulder black crepe sheath, layered with purple and blue tulle with a jeweled embellishment, was part of his closing collection for Philippine Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011.

Continuing the Gaupo collection showcase, the highlights a set of black and white ensembles, first shown at Philippine Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011.

The three creations reflect Gaupo’s approach to design, combining form, structure, and fluid elements, each piece demonstrating precise construction and the use of contrast in color. Donated to the BFM by the family of Tonichi Nocom.

corner features a black and white Cesar Grupo gown with a floor-length cape with arm slits, and embellished at the upper bodice with rhinestones. Donated to the BFM by the family of Tonichi Nocom.
