Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition characterized by stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint. It typically develops gradually over time and can limit the range of motion in the shoulder. The exact cause is often unknown, but factors like injury, overuse, or certain medical conditions may contribute. It's called "frozen" because the shoulder's capsule thickens and tightens, restricting movement. The condition typically progresses through three stages: 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒛𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒛𝒆𝒏, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒈. In the 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞, pain gradually increases and shoulder movement becomes limited. During the 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐳𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞, the pain may decrease, but stiffness persists. Finally, in the 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞, movement gradually improves, and pain diminishes. Treatment may include physical therapy, pain management, corticosteroid injections, and in some cases, surgery to release the tight capsule.
