PUBLICATION ALERT

Congratulations to Dr. Zypher Jude G. Regencia of the Department of Sociology and Behavioral Sciences on the publication of his latest research article in Discover Public Health.

Co-authored with Dr. Mary Ann J. Ladia and Dr. Emmanuel S. Baja, the study, titled “Qualitative examination of stressors and facilitators of skin lightening practices on mental well-being among emerging Filipino adults,” explores how skin color stigma, family influences, media pressures, and skin-lightening practices shape the mental well-being of Filipino emerging adults.

The article highlights the complex role of skin-lightening practices as both a source of perceived hope and control and a potential contributor to disappointment, financial strain, and continued self-surveillance. It also emphasizes the need for culturally sensitive mental health promotion and broader efforts to address colorism in families, media, education, healthcare, and public policy.
