Advancing its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and internationalization, the University of Santo Tomas College of Rehabilitation Sciences (UST-CRS) Department of Occupational Therapy successfully conducted academic benchmarking visits with two premier institutions in South Korea: 𝑺𝒐𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒉𝒖𝒏𝒉𝒚𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 on June 9, and 𝒀𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒆𝒊 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑴𝒊𝒓𝒂𝒆 𝑪𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒖𝒔 on June 10. 🏛️🌟

Representing the Thomasian community were:

The UST delegation was graciously received by the academic leadership of both host universities:
At Soonchunhyang University, the session was led by Dr. D**g Won Byun (Dean of the College of Medical Science) and Prof. Ji-Hee Kim (Chairperson of the Department of Occupational Therapy). 🩺

The University of Santo Tomas continues to strengthen its international research partnerships through the recent VR training and institutional visit of its research team at Soonchunhyang University (SCHU), South Korea, held from May 25 to 28, 2026. The visit forms part of a research collaboration funded by the National Research Foundation of Korea, led by the UST Center for Health Research and Movement Science in collaboration with the Department of Occupational Therapy.

The team was hosted by Dr. Yunyoung Nam, PhD, Professor and Department Head of Computer Science and Engineering and Director of the Emotional and Intelligence Child Care System Convergence Research Center, together with Dr. Chomyoung Kim, PhD and Dr. Yaena Ha, PhD.

The training 𝒇𝒐𝒄𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒅𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒂 𝑽𝑹-𝒃𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒔𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐𝒐𝒍, 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒊𝒕𝒔 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝑻𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒈 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒇𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔. The team also visited SCHU Hospital Cheonan, SCHU Hospital Seoul, the School of Nursing at SCHU Hospital Cheonan, the SCHU Department of Occupational Therapy and its research laboratories, and engaged in collaborative discussions with the SCHU Vice Director of International Exchange. This partnership supports the development of AI-powered and VR-based technologies for pediatric rehabilitation, with the goal of improving access to culturally responsive screening and intervention services for Filipino children and families.
