🌐 What is Media and Information Literacy (MIL)?
At DW Akademie, we believe MIL is about five key skills:
Access – Analyze – Create – Reflect – Act
Let’s start with the first one: Access 👀
🔍 1 — Access: Finding and Using Media Wisely
What does it mean to “access” media?
It means knowing how to find relevant and factual information, how to use media tools, and how to share safely.
📱💡 Examples:
• Searching online with the right keywords
• Using media technology (smartphones, cameras, microphones…)
🧠 Why is Access Important?
Think of learning to read a book 📖:
• You learn to hold it the right way
• You read from start to finish
• You understand how words and pictures work together
This is similar to using media. Every type of media—like videos, websites, or social networks—needs different skills.
🌐 Online Access Tips:
• Use smart keywords when searching
• Know which sources are trustworthy
• Learn how to use tools like search engines and apps
• Be ready to multitask and stay safe online
🎯 Goal:
You don’t need to be a tech expert. But the more you practice, the better you get at finding and using media. And once you learn how to access today’s media, you’ll be ready for tomorrow’s too!
