The Legend of Stingy Jack

Ever wondered why and how pumpkins became part of the Halloween celebration?

There is a tale behind the pumpkin's association with Halloween. According to the popular Irish myth, a man called Stingy Jack was a cunning and deceptive soul that managed to outwit the Devil himself on multiple occasions. Neither Heaven nor Hell wanted Jack's soul when he finally passed away. The Devil, frustrated by Jack’s trickery, sent him off into the night with only a burning coal to light his way. Jack placed the coal inside a hollowed-out turnip and roamed the Earth, which became popular as ‘Jack of the Lantern’ and eventually changed into “Jack O'Lantern”. And this is how the tradition of carving a pumpkin and placing them outside their homes started.

Pumpkins were also believed to drive off evil spirits. Carved pumpkins with lit candles inside were placed on doorsteps to protect homes from wandering spirits on All Hallows’ Eve, creating a tradition that persists up to this day.

There are always intriguing new experiences to be had in the world of the College Year. Seniors in high school anticipate adjusting to academic, lifestyle, and social changes as they become first-year college students.

My expectations for social interactions: college provides an opportunity for me to meet new people, whether it is through clubs, campus activities, or hangouts with friends. I can definitely learn and improve my social graces with this. Specifically, developing enduring relationships with my professor and peers requires polite interaction in a classroom setting.

Achieving greatness in all I set out to do is what I consider to be the primary objectives for my school, career, and future. A person cannot be considered successful until they have fulfilled a number of life's objectives. Reaching your goals is what makes you successful.
