Kermit is back at it again for another OBCoP Workshop! 🎉🤩
The OBCoP Workshop 2024 is an annual event that brings together bright minds and passionate individuals committed to making a difference. The Student Affairs and Services Office of PNU provided a two-day workshop held on August 6th and 7th, 2024, which included student leaders from various organizations in the university.
The PNU Biological Society once again joined the conversation among leaders passionate about their organizations’ advocacies.
BIOSOC President Josh Paulo Selfasion, along with Vice President Julian Pornobi and Secretary Angela Kirsten Isaac, represented this year’s OBCoP Workshop.
As one of the program-based organizations at PNU, it is important that the PNU Biological Society once again included the biology community at the table to build new connections, collaborate with other organizations, and strategize for the next academic year.
The BIOSOC would like to express their gratitude to the director of SASO, Dr. Merimee Tampus-Siena, Prof. Ma. Laarni Buenaventura, the Coordinator for Student Activities-Undergraduate Level to Dr. Gladys C. Nivera, Dean of the College of Teacher
Development(CTD), and to Dr. Denmark L. Yonson, the Vice President for Student Success and Stakeholders Services.

The Philippines is home of thousands or maybe millions of plants and animals with some can be seen within your locality or even in the wild 🇵🇭. Because of these organisms that are present in our surroundings, we’ve come up to the point that we are not aware of having species that are not even discovered yet 🤔.
Meet the 𝑷𝒐𝒅𝒐𝒈𝒚𝒎𝒏𝒖𝒓𝒂 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒂, our little friend that is newly discovered in Mindanao😲. Scientists thought that it is a cousin of another Peromyscus truei but later found out that it has its own characteristics🔍, therefore considered to be a new species that are not yet discovered👏. If scientists didn’t go on the peak Mt. Hamiguitan in Davao Oriental and Mt. Kampalili in Davao de Oro, maybe we aren’t able to discover this cute fella🤯.
According to the National Geographic, there are still a huge portion of the fauna that are yet to be discovered globally, estimated to be at 86%!🔍🔬 We might encounter even more of these new species or even new animals in our country as the time and technology progresses🤩.

The banana, scientifically known as 𝙈𝙪𝙨𝙖, belongs to the 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 of tropical 🌸🌷 flowering plants. 🌺Its unique feature is the cluster of banana fruit at the top of the plant. The primary variety available in the United States and Europe is the disease-resistant and somewhat flavorful Cavendish form.
There are various types of bananas here in the Philippines 🇵🇭 which are commonly known as Lakatan, Saba, Latundan, and 𝑺𝒆ñ𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒂.
The nutritious and delicious fruit is one of the most important parts of the country’s economy, the same as with the Filipino farmers. because as a cash crop, they provide both income creation and the staple food security of households.🏠💫

𝐅𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 are impacted by the "𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞" in mothers. 👨👦💕
Known by many as the "love hormone," 𝐨𝐱𝐲𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐧 is released through touch, music, physical activity and even romantic relationships! This hormone strengthens our bonds with the people we love. 🫂❣️ Though, people have traditionally thought of oxytocin as a female hormone because it facilitates childbirth, lactation, and bonding with the baby. New evidence shows that fathers also undergo hormonal changes involving oxytocin. 🫶
It was shown that oxytocin contributes to father-infant connection and that new fathers undergo hormonal changes in a study by James Rilling, in which he conducted thorough interviews with 𝟏𝟐𝟎 𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬! According to the data gathered by the aforementioned interview, most of the fathers have felt proud and enthusiastic when talking about their experiences as a father. However, what is it that's raising new fathers' oxytocin levels is still yet to be known . Other research studies suggest that something about the baby's appearance or smell may have affected the hormonal changes experienced by fathers. 👨👧👦💗
As we celebrate 𝐅𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫'𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲, let us take this opportunity to thank our fathers and give back the love and efforts that they have given us all through our lives! ✨🦸

The World Oceans Day theme for 2024 is "𝑨𝒘𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒏 𝑵𝒆𝒘 𝑫𝒆𝒑𝒕𝒉𝒔." On World Oceans Day, everyone is reminded of the vital role that oceans play in daily life. They serve as the planet's lungs, a significant supply of food and medicine, and an essential component of the ecosystem.✨
More than a billion people worldwide rely mostly on the ocean for their protein needs, and it generates at least 50% of the oxygen on Earth. It also harbors the majority of the planet's biodiversity. Not to mention, the ocean is vital to our economy, with 40 million jobs in ocean-based sectors predicted by 2030.🫨
