‘PiTAGORAS’ is the annual regional inter-high school tournament, hosted exclusively by the UST Mathematical Society for high school students in NCR, Region IV-A and its neighboring cities and provinces. This special project was pursued not only to motivate secondary level students to consistently excel in the field of Mathematics but also to expose them into a competitive but friendly and interact
ive atmosphere.
‘PiTAGORAS’, similar to other high school math tilts which has the objective of promoting Mathematical proficiency, developing analytical and computational skills, and of expanding the horizons in and through Mathematics. The UST Mathematical Society hopes for this quiz bee, on its seventh year, to gain its own identity that will strongly exude the Thomasian values of Competence, Commitment, and Compassion. HISTORY
The University of Santo Tomas Mathematical Society (UST MATHSOC) started holding the Mathematics Tournament in the year 2007 until 2011. However, MATHSOC did not hold a quiz bee in the academic year 2009-2010. In this competition, all students of DepEd-recognized secondary schools in NCR are eligible to join. Following the success of the first four quiz bees, the UST MATHSOC continues to promote its objectives by organizing this kind of tournament. In conducting this special project of the UST MATHSOC, some parts of the competition were revised in order to assure the quality of the said contest. One of which is making "PiTAGORAS" as its official tournament name. 2012's tournament was entitled "MATHinik ka ba?". Also, on this year, the coverage has been extended to the neighboring cities and provinces of NCR. On the mark of its 9th year, the tournament has been extended to Region IV-A. The coverage and the number of the course topics for the questions are also expanded. Through this 7th High School Level Mathematics Tournament, the organization aims to enhance the students' skills in mathematics that will serve as a training ground for them and to promote the B.S. Applied Mathematics Major in Actuarial Science program to the high school students. PROPONENTS
This academic year 2016-2017, the UST MATHSOC, having the will to be a BIGGER, BETTER and STRONGER organization and believing that LIMITS DO NOT EXIST, has prepared its drive towards success. With the support from the faculty and alumni of the Department of Mathematics and Physics, the organization pursues the promotion of academic excellence, leadership, and competence in strengthening its organizational by-laws, including internal and external relations to give a lift to the role of Mathematics as a key to progress. "PiTAGORAS" is considered by the UST MATHSOC as a way through success on fulfilling the goals for this term.
