𝙇𝙚𝙩'𝙨 𝙘𝙚-𝙘𝙚-𝙘𝙚-𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 🎉
Before the month ends, let's greet our Eco-Guardian from Foreign Service, Sophia, a belated happy birthday! 👸🎂
We thank you for your never-ending support and participation in our organization's activities. Your active participation demonstrates your strong commitment towards your environmental advocacy and is a wonderful inspiration to all of us. 💚
May your wishes come true and more blessings to come. ✨
The PWU Environmental Science Society stands with the Filipino people as we are all experiencing the scorching heat brought by increasing global temperature. 𝗕𝗮𝗸𝗶𝘁 𝗻𝗴𝗮 𝗯𝗮 𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁? According to the United Nations (n.d.), the major causes of climate change include 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐥 𝐟𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫, 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧; 𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭; 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲’𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫-𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.
The worsening effects of climate change are especially dangerous for Filipinos. As a tropical country, we experience higher temperatures, heat waves, droughts, stronger typhoons, floods, and sea level rise, which in turn threaten our food supply and public health.
As such, we call on the Philippine government to strictly implement the policies in place to mitigate global warming, fight climate change, and conserve the Philippine rainforest and marine ecosystems which help sequester carbon from the atmosphere. Moreover, it’s time for our lawmakers to take a firmer stand. Let’s support our government as it negotiates with other nations on international environmental policies. As a form of climate justice, our country deserves responsible compensation for the effects of climate change brought by industrialized economies that emit most of the greenhouse gasses into our atmosphere. As one of the most vulnerable populations, our government and the private sector should care more. Lastly, we, as citizens, should also care more and support the government in its commitment during COP26 to reduce the country’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
We can start by educating ourselves about climate change and other environmental issues, and their effects on the Filipino people. Then, we can take small steps such as signing this petition as empowered citizens. We can also do this by planting trees, voting for government leaders who care for the environment, conserving energy and water, and lessening our consumption. Remember, our small actions can collectively make an impact.
Signing this petition by Greenpeace demands governments and corporations to be accountable for their actions that worsen climate change, urging them to create solutions to the problems we all face.
Help fight this scorching heat by making your mark with just a few clicks:

The impacts of climate change do not affect everyone equally as vulnerable sectors are more significantly burdened compared to others. And so, PWU-EnSSoc joins Greenpeace in demanding .

📢 Attention Eco-Guardians‼️
Climate change is one of the most urgent threats humanity is facing today. It has drastic impacts that span all aspects of society from health to economies to agriculture. What can we do to stop it?
Today is the International Day of Climate Action. This is a call for everyone not only to be aware of the causes and impacts of climate change but also to 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 about it.
Not sure how to make the initial step? Don't worry, you can start by signing this petition that calls for big companies to stop sourcing the palm oil and the paper in their products from unsustainable and rogue producers from Indonesia who 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗮𝘇𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗮'𝘀 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 to the ground so that they can convert these forest grounds to palm tree plantations. These rainforests are important carbon sinks that store carbon that would otherwise be in the atmosphere warming our planet and causing climate change. Moreover, these forests serve as a home to a diverse flora and fauna, many of which can only be found in Indonesia.
Let's pressure these big companies to not only commit to sustainable practices but also to faithfully implement them. A simple action such as 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 can make an impact. So what are you waiting for? Sign this petition now and let our voices be heard! 📝👇👇
