There really is no place like home. ๐ŸŒปโœจ

โ€‹Last December 16, the UPCN Library was filled with more than just booksโ€”it was filled with the laughter and stories of UPCN alumni currently serving as nurses in Philippine General Hospital. It was the perfect breather from hospital duties to reconnect with the community that started it all.

โ€‹A huge thank you to the UPCN Alumni Association, Inc. for making this possible, and a special shoutout to Ms. Rita Villanueva-Tamse (UPCN lecturer and former PGH Deputy Director for Nursing) and Ms. Marian T. Villanueva (PGH DNET Nurse IV and proud UPCN alumna) for their hard work in leading the organization of this joyful gathering. ๐ŸŽ„โค๏ธ

The Lantern Parade on December 12 was a fantastic showcase not just of the beautiful and huge lanterns but also UP Manila's activism, dedication and collaborative spirit. Watching UPCN's Batches Paralaya, Sinagtala, Estrelya, and Hiraya work together, supported by faculty and staff, reminds us what this Christmas event is all about: unity, effort, and finding joy in the process. We hope everyone had a blast embracing the festive energy! Check out these highlights from UPCN's Nursing Student Council! ๐Ÿ’–.

In observance of World AIDS Day, the UP College of Nursing and the UP Manila Center for Gender and Women Studies, in collaboration with the UP Male Nursesโ€™ Organization, in partnership with LoveYourself Inc., held a meaningful two-part event last December 4, 2025, anchored on the theme โ€œResilient Together: Transforming the AIDS Response through Awareness, Research, and Action.โ€

The program opened with a series of thought-provoking messages from distinguished speakers who highlighted the critical intersections of awareness, stigma reduction, research, and community engagement. Prof. Amiel Nazer C. Bermudez of the UP College of Public Health discussed the psychosocial syndemic burden and antiretroviral therapy adherence among cisgender Filipino men who have s*x with men, explaining co-occuring and mutually-reinforcing psychosocial conditions shaping HIV-related outcomes.

This was followed by Pete Tan, Program Officer of LoveYourself Inc., who shared the organizationโ€™s ongoing community action and advocacy initiatives aimed at strengthening prevention, testing, and care.

One of the most impactful moments of the event came from Project Duyan of the Project Red Ribbon Care Management Foundation, Inc., as a member bravely shared their lived experience through the segment Stories of Strength, offering a deeply personal narrative that emphasized resilience, compassion, and the necessity of inclusive support for people living with HIV.

Following the learning sessions, members of the UP Manila community were invited to avail of ๐™›๐™ง๐™š๐™š ๐™ƒ๐™„๐™‘ ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐™˜๐™ค๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™จ๐™š๐™ก๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ, made possible through our partners from ๐™‡๐™ค๐™ซ๐™š๐™”๐™ค๐™ช๐™ง๐™จ๐™š๐™ก๐™› ๐™„๐™ฃ๐™˜., reinforcing the importance of accessible prevention tools and empowering individuals to make informed health decisions.

Through shared learning, community voices, and proactive engagement, this commemoration reaffirmed our collective commitment to a future rooted in awareness, compassion, and zero stigma.

The other student nurses who worked on this research are Angel Lynne Yap, Carmela Garcia, Samantha Maureen Michaela Padre, John Christopher Padua, Kimberly Anne Candelaria, and Piolo Miguel Patricio. They were under the mentorship of Asst. Prof. Alyssa Jenny Tupaz.

The study stood out among submissions from institutions across the Region, recognizing it as a remarkable accomplishment that reflects their excellence in inquiry, depth of analysis, and commitment to generating evidence that supports and strengthens oncology nursing practice.

This recognition highlights not only the strength of UPCNโ€™s student researchers, but also the value of mentorship and rigorous scholarship in shaping the next generation of nurse leaders.

We extend our warmest congratulations to the team for bringing pride and honor to the College. Your work makes a meaningful contribution to the advancement of cancer nursing and Filipino nursing scholarship.

The UP College of Nursing joined nursing leaders and experts from across the globe at the 3rd International Advanced Nursing Practice Conference, hosted by the Hong Kong Academy of Nursing and Midwifery, last November 14-16, 2025. With the theme โ€œAdvanced Nursing Practice โ€“ Global Strategies for Better Health,โ€ the conference gathered distinguished scholars, advanced practice nurses, policymakers, and educators to discuss the evolving roles of APNs in improving health systems worldwide.

The conference featured keynote presentations, plenary sessions, concurrent research discussions, and international panel dialogues on topics such as AI integration in nursing, clinical leadership, global APN regulation, standardized nursing terminology, specialist nurse development, and the future trajectory of advanced practice roles. Sessions highlighted innovations and evidence that continue to shape APN education, research, and service across regions.

UPCNโ€™s participation reflects the Collegeโ€™s commitment to strengthening Advanced Practice Nursing in the Philippines by engaging in global conversations, learning from international exemplars, and aligning with emerging trends that impact nursing practice, education, and health policy.
We extend our appreciation to the organizers and speakers for creating a rich platform for collaborative learning and advancing the vision of APN practice as responsive, transformative, and globally connected.
