Dear PAO,
I have a friend who started an online business wherein she "offers" Filipina brides to foreign nationals. The process is that she will upload the profiles of these women, and if they are chosen by the foreign nationals, my friend will personally introduce them to each other for a fee. Is my friend violating a law?

The Manila Times and The Manila Times College is organizing the 2nd Campus Journalism Congress. Titled “The Manila Times Campus Journalism Forum: Critical Thinking in Pursuit of Journalism Amid Critical Times,” the featured main speaker is Mr. Jaime FlorCruz of CNN Beijing - to be held on October 30 at 10:00 AM to 12:00PM.
Learning must not stop – even when the world is in a health crisis. For amid this pandemic, valuable lessons are learned and golden opportunities are just around the corner to be discovered, hidden talents and skills waiting to be honed or sharpened for one's own good, the family, the community, the nation, or the whole humankind.
Taking off from last year when The Manila Times and The Manila Times College conducted Campus Journalism Congress with the theme, “PRESSPECTRUM: Diverse Perspectives in the Pursuit of Journalism,” the country's oldest newspaper and pioneering English publication in Asia is conducting another congress this year.
For sure, campus journalists from all over the country from high schools, colleges and universities will learn a lot from in this breakthrough endeavor of The Times for students who want to pursue a career in journalism after graduation.
In time of crisis especially in the age of social media, where fake news or distorted information abound, it is important to always stay true to the principles and practices of quality, ethical and unbiased journalism. It is imperative to use critical thinking therefore in disseminating news or information and not succumb to the call of sensationalism and the greed to get likes and hearts and shares in the platforms available for popularity.
Trusted since 1898, and presently with a Campus Press section, we would like to invite your school to be a part of this year's Journalism Congress. The event shall be broadcast live on The Manila Times page and streamed on the publication's YouTube channel and The Manila Times TV, with real-time interaction with viewers.
