The Baccalaureate Mass will be held on February 6 (Tuesday), 10 a.m., at the UE Theatre

The prescribed attire for the Baccalaureate Mass is your UE uniform.

All CCSS Candidates for Graduation are required to attend the Graduation Orientation right after the mass. The program and tickets for the Commencement Rites will be distributed after the orientation.

The UE Bachelor of Science in Data Science program will cover the study of data and methodologies, processes, algorithms, and systems for collecting, refining, storing, and analyzing data to arrive at useful insights and knowledge. Data Science is a discipline in computing that benefits from developments in computer science, mathematics, statistics, business, and other disciplines.

UE’s BSDS students would be knowledgeable and skilled in processing, management, and analysis of data in various forms. They are envisioned to be competent, innovative, creative, and responsible problem-solvers who can contribute to nation-building.

The UE BSDS program can concretely contribute to the development of society, with its graduates expected to extract and use applied data to make their work go faster and farther, and thus help businesses maximize profit—while creating new communities and promising careers and opportunities across all industry sectors.

Data science, in general, can help solve social problems through close coordination and work across sectors to take on real-world problems in education, energy, transportation, safety, international development, economic development health, and more.

Mr. Joseph B. Bagnes has come a long way from his humble beginnings as a student of the UE College of Computer Studies and Systems.

Since earning his UE degree of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology in 2010, this Meycauayan, Bulacan, resident has developed into a bona fide Site Reliability Engineer; a Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps) Specialist; and a Software Architect.

After consultant stints at Sun Microsystems and Hewlett-Packard in the Philippines, he has been working in Singapore for 11 years now—initially as Technical Lead of Credit Agricole CIB, then as Senior Lead Software Engineer for Crimsonlogic, and, for the last four years, as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer for the world’s largest technology company, Apple Inc.

𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗬 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯-𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗘𝗻𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

📌Step 1. Go to the UE website home page and click on the Enroll Online button (https://www.ue.edu.ph/iEnroll/login.html).

📌Step 2. Log in to UE’s Registration System. If you cannot sign in due to a pop-up-message tag such as “See the Dean” or “See the Guidance Counselor,” you may choose from the 2 options:
🟢𝗢𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴
1. Visit the GCCSO on Monday to Friday 8:30 am-11:30 am only.
2. Bring a printed copy of your grades from the last two semesters attended.

🟢𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴
1. Please email 𝒈𝒖𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆@𝒖𝒆.𝒆𝒅𝒖.𝒑𝒉 using your UE email address and with the following format:
- Email subject: your College and the issue (ex. CCSS - See the Guidance Counselor).
- Email message: After your greeting, please indicate your full name, UE student number, incoming year level, degree program, subjects failed or dropped within the last two semesters, and reason/s for LFR, failing or dropping. Attach a clear screenshot of your grades from the last two semesters attended.

2. Your online academic counseling will then be scheduled. For this, a UE Guidance Counselor will send to your UE email address your Google Meet schedule, ID, and password.

- For CCSS students with a “See the Dean” notice and other enrollment concerns: A UE Guidance Counselor will send to your email address the contact details of the Dean of your College, to whom you should write and who will advise you on the next step. Please follow the above instructions in writing your email.

3. Reply to the email to confirm your availability for your specific online academic counseling schedule.

4. After the online academic counseling, your Guidance Counselor will forward the results to your Dean. Your Dean’s Office will process the removal of your “See the Guidance Counselor”/ “See the Dean” message. Check your Online Enrollment Portal within two (2) working days.

You may enroll for the summer classes starting from June 5 to 14, 2023. The college will still accept late enrollees until June 20.

Computer Science Warriors Present Paper in International Research Conference!

Five students of the UE College of Computer Studies and Systems (CCSS) and their research adviser, Prof. Melie Jim F. Sarmiento, were able to have their joint research paper presented at the 8th International Conference on Business and Industrial Research (ICBIR 2023 https://icbir.tni.ac.th/)!

ICBIR 2023—which was held at the E Building of the Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology (TNI) in Bangkok, Thailand on May 18-19, 2023—was organized by the said Institute, Technology Promotion Association (TPA; Thailand-Japan), and the Artificial Intelligence Association of Thailand (AIAT).

The UE CCSS team's paper, titled “Tracking Input Devices to Detect Cheating Using Machine Learning Techniques,” was authored by Ralf Martin R. Tabo, John Christian B. Tiosan, Virgilio A. Lopez Jr., Angelo D.R. Altoveros, and Renz Darryl M. Manangat. Mr. Lopez presented the paper at the conference on the team's behalf.

The UE team's paper, which underscores the usage of an Ensemble model from Machine Learning models such as Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machines, and Random Forest, significantly highlights the successful detection of cheating examinees in online examinations.

All five participating UE CCSS students are Bachelor of Science in Computer Science seniors. All are UE-Tan Yan Kee Foundation, Inc. scholars while Mr. Tabo, Mr. Tiosan, Mr. Lopez Jr. and Mr. Altoveros are also Department of Science and Technology (DOST-Sei) scholars.

Prof. Sarmiento, the team's research adviser, is currently the Chairperson of the UE CCSS Department of Computer Science.

They are all part of UE, which is ranked 9th in the Philippines as the Best University to study Computer Science (as ranked by EduRank.org in terms of overall research performance), and of the UE CCSS, a Commission on Higher Education-certified Center of Excellence in Information Technology Education.

Prof. Roselle S. Basa has come a long way from her formative years as a student of the University of the East College of Computer Studies and Systems.

On top of being a professor and department chair at the UE CCSS, she is the Program Coordinator for Instructional Technology of the UE Office of Curriculum Development and Instruction, and the University’s Data Protection Officer.

Her meticulous data privacy work has been lauded in and beyond the University, resulting in her becoming the Philippines’ first ever Best Data Protection Officer in the Academe, as awarded by the country’s Information Security Officers Group.
