Sa paggunita ng Pandaigdigang Araw ng Malayang Pagpapahayag, binabati natin, lalo't higit ang mga alagad ng midya, sa kanilang matapang na pagtangan sa tungkuling ilantad sa madla ang kalagayan ng mga batayang sektor ng lipunan at ang iba pang mga nagbabagang balita, kahit pa ito'y hindi umayon sa interes ng nasa kinauukulan.

Hindi birong gawain ang kanilang pinapasan. Sa kanilang bawat ulat, kaakibat nito ang banta ng panunupil at dahas. Nariyan si Frenchie Mae Cumpio, na kasaluyan paring hinaharap ang kaso hinggil sa “terrorism financing” na ipinataw sa kanya ng estado, kaugnay sa kanyang pag-uulat ng mga paglabag sa karapatang pantao ng galamay ng estado sa Tacloban.

Nitong ika-19 ng Abril, isa rin si RJ Ledesma sa mga nasawi sa operasyon ng militar sa isla ng Negros. Isang mamamahayag ng komunidad na noon ay nagsasagawa lamang ng pag-uulat tungkol sa epekto ng mga renewable energy projects sa mga pamayanang maaapektuhan ng pagtatayo nito.

Maging sa pamantasan ng Politeknikong Unibersidad ng Pilipinas, buhay rin ang panunupil sa hanay ng mga kampus na mamamahayag. Si Jacob Baluyot ay kinikilalang “seditious” o kalaban ng estado dahil lamang sa kanyang aktibong pag-uulat sa naging kilos-protesta noong ika-21 ng Setyembre hinggil sa katiwalian sa flood control projects.

Tatlo lamang sila sa marami pang mamamahayag na, sa gitna ng paghahanap at pagbabahagi ng mapait na kalagayan at katotohanan ng mamamayan, ay sinasalubong ng panganib. Ngunit sa kabila ng takot at pagpapatahimik na pilit idinidikta sa kanila ay nagpapatuloy ang kanilang tindig sapagkat ang katotohanan, gaano man supilin, ay laging naghahanap ng daan upang makaabot sa kalakhang mamamayan.

Sa lahat ng manggagawa, sa mga magulang na walang kapantay ang pagkalinga, sa mga haligi ng tahanan at tagapagtaguyod ng pamilya, at maging sa mga panganay na unang nagsasakripisyo, maligayang Araw ng Paggawa.

Sa bawat umaga na inyong sinasalubong, naroon ang bigat ng tungkulin at ang init ng pag-asa. Sa araw-araw na ikaw ay bumabangon, hindi sa lahat ng oras ay may sapat na motibasyon; kung minsan ay nais mo nang tumigil, ngunit iniisip mo ang magiging kapalit nito. Kaya kahit ang pagod ay sumasagad na sa laman at diwa, pinipili mo pa ring magpatuloy, pinipiling ibigay ang pinakamahusay na kaya mo.

Sa gitna ng mundong may ilan pa ring pinipiling manlamang at umagaw sa nararapat sa nakararami, nananatili kayong matatag. Kayo ay lumalaban nang marangal, humahakbang nang may dangal, at may katapatan. Ang inyong sipag at sakripisyo ay hindi lamang bilang sa oras o sahod, kundi kwento ng tibay ng loob at lalim ng pag-ibig. Para sa mga pusong tahimik na lumalaban sa araw-araw, ito ay para sa inyo.

At para rin sa mga kuwentong patuloy na isinasalaysay, sa bawat larawang bumubuhay sa katotohanan na sa likod ng bawat kinikita ay isang buhay na may pangarap, maligayang Araw ng Paggawa.

In solidarity with Alay Kalinga’s Unified Relief Operation, BAPS 3-1 humbly calls for your support for the families affected by the NIA Road Fire Incident.

On March 6, 2026, a devastating fire struck the residential community along NIA Road, Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City, reaching a Task Force Bravo alarm and destroying around 95% of the area. The tragedy left approximately 4,000 families homeless, many of whom are now staying in evacuation centers and in urgent need of assistance.

In response, we are raising awareness and encouraging donations to help provide immediate relief and support to those affected. Any amount, big or small, can make a meaningful difference in helping families rebuild their lives.
