CONGRATULATIONS!

Two groups of senior political science students presented papers at separate conferences this year. The first group, including Eryl James V. Cabiles, Kurt Adrian M. Abalos, Nathaniel Bowditch T. Asuncion, Bea Irene Denise B. Dapar, and Jhian Mhikyla M. Garcia, presented “Kontra-Gahum sa Kanayunang Espasyo: Paghihimay sa Pakikipagtunggali ng Kabaklaan sa Paggalugad ng Kasarian sa Jones, Isabela” at the 3rd Philippine Q***r Studies Conference, held April 24-26. This conference is the country’s pioneering national LGBTQI research event, gathering scholars, policymakers, and advocates for q***r rights in the Philippines. Guided by Dr. Maria Rita Cucio, the students received the Best Presentation and Best Thesis awards in the Gender and Politics category at the Department’s 2026 Faculty and Student Research Colloquium.

The second group, consisting of Mart Noel Fuaso, Alexie Gwyneth Aragona, Christine Rosario, Latrell Esquibal, and Romeo De Luna presented “From the Roots of Coloniality: Toxic Resilience as a Crutch of Elite Democracy” at the 9th DLSU International Conference on Asian and Philippine Studies, held May 28-30, 2026, in Cagayan De Oro City. Under the guidance of Dr. Reynold D. Agnes, these senior students received the Best Thesis Award at the FEU Department of Political Science 2026 Faculty and Student Research Colloquium.

The FEU Department of Political Science congratulates its faculty member, Dr. Reynold Agnes with his two book chapters in the book, entitled “Pagsasaayos: Kaayusan, Komunidad, at Identidad”, which was launched as part of the 47th Anniversary celebration of the SDRC at De La Salle University.

Dr. Agnes contributed two chapters to this book. The first chapter examines the concept of “diskarte,” referring to the strategies barangay leaders employ when formal structures fail. The other contribution explores “pighati at pagdamay,” as foundational elements in the construction of political communities during the pandemic.
