21 SEAFARERS REPATRIATED FROM UKRAINE ARRIVE IN MANILA

The Department of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday that Filipino seafarers who had been stranded on the M/V S-Breeze have arrived in Manila.

The M/V S-Breeze has been docked at the Ilyichevsk Ship Yard in the port of Odessa in Ukraine for repairs since late January.

In a Twitter post, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Sarah Arriola said the 21 Filipino crew members of the bulk carrier have been repatriated.

"They crossed from Ukraine to Moldova through the assistance of Honorary Consul [Victor] Gaina," Arriola said.

The department previously said 13 other seafarers from the Star Helena crew crossed the Moldova border last week and are also waiting for repatriation.

On Monday, the DFA ordered the mandatory evacuation of all the Filipinos in Ukraine after it raised the crisis alert level to Alert Level 4 for all areas "due to the rapidly deteriorating security situation."

Travels will be at the expense of the Philippine government.
"Filipinos in Ukraine will be assisted by the Philippine Embassy in Poland and the Rapid Response Team, which are currently assisting Filipino nationals for repatriation and relocation," the department said in an advisory.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on Monday said 1.7 million have already fled Ukraine. | via Philippine Star

Isang nakakalungkot na pangyayari ang naganap sa cargo ship na MV Meghna Liberty kung saan isang Pinoy Cook na kinilalang si Calopez Alfred Kenneth Bonghanoy, 33, ay nakapatay sa kapwa Pinoy na siyang Kapitan Mismo ng barko na si Rolly Baquillos Solante, 44.

Nag-ugat daw ang pangyayari nang magkaroon ng argumento ang Kapitan at ang Cook.

Ayon kay Bonghanoy, palagi DIUMANO siya pinapahiya ni Solante sa harap ng ibang crew members.

Ang barko ay agad na pinareport sa pinakamalapit na port sa Mauritius matapos makatanggap ng distress call. Noong Nov. 14 ay umalis ng Port Elizabeth, South Africa, ang cargo ship at papunta ito ng bansang India.

Araw ng Linggo, 8:50pm, nang sinabi ni Bonghanoy sa messman na sinaksak niya si Solante. Pinarating ito ng messman sa third officer at inalerto na rin ng opisyal ang iba pang crew.
Sabay-sabay nilang hinanap ang Kapitan at ang Chef. Nakita nila si Bonghanoy sa hallway. At nang tinanong ito, ang sagot daw ay "already finished".

Pinuntahan nila ang cabina ni Solante at pinilit nilang buksan ang pinto ng kuwarto nito. Tumambad sa mga crew ang kanilang Kapitan na nakaluhod sa sariling dugo. Maraming sugat ito sa kaniyang likuran. Sinubukan ng mga kasamahan sa barko na irevive ang kanilang kapitan pero patay na ito nang datnan nila.

Naiparating agad ng Chief Officer ang malungkot na pangyayari sa kumpanya ng barko.

Ang autopsy ay isinagawa nitong Martes ni Dr. Sudesh Gungadin at ang sanhi ng pagkamatay ay ang maraming saksak na tinamo ni Solante.

Ayon sa suspek, nangyari ang krimen nang nasa South Africa pa ang barko. Sinuyod ng Scene of Crime officers ang cargo ship pero hindi na nakita ang murder weapon. Ayon kay Bonghanoy, tinapon daw niya ito sa dagat.

Naiharap na si Bonghanoy sa korte nitong Martes para sa "interim charge of murder". Ang lahat na 20 crew members, pawang mga Pinoy, ay papakinggan din ng mga imbestigador. Ang kanilang mga passports at ship logbooks ay hawak na ng Port Police para sa gagawin pang imbestigasyon.
