๐ŸŒŸ MEET OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKER #1: AMIRAH ALI LIDASAN ๐ŸŒŸ

We are honored to welcome Amirah Ali Lidasan, a dedicated Moro activist from the Iranun tribe of Maguindanao, as our keynote speaker. Amirah brings with her a lifetime of unwavering commitment to the fight for justice, equality, and self-determination for Moro and Indigenous peoples.

A Journalism graduate from UP Diliman, Amirah held key leadership roles as UJP president, CMC Student Council chair (1994), and NUSP national chairperson (1995).But her advocacy continues beyond the campus, through her involvement in national democratic movements such as the Moro-Christian Peopleโ€™s Alliance, where she serves as Secretary-General, and the Sandugo Movement of Moro and Indigenous Peoples for Self-Determination, where she is Co-Chairperson, as well as in campaigns led by Kilusang Mayo Uno, Karapatan, and the National Federation of Sugar Workers.

So, don't miss the chance and join us as we listen to her insights drawn from decades of courageous work at the intersections of media, activism, and grassroots organizing.

As of July 2025, the situation in Gaza and the broader Palestinian territoriesโ€”especially since the outbreak of the Israel-Gaza war in October 2023โ€”has resulted in devastating human consequences, which many human rights groups, experts, and UN officials have described as a genocide, or showing โ€œplausibleโ€ evidence of genocidal intent by Israeli forces.

The health system in Gaza is in collapse with less than 25% of hospitals partially functioning, and those that remain are overwhelmed and critically under-resourced. Thereโ€™s a severe lack of anesthesia, antibiotics, clean water, and fuel. In many cases, doctors are forced to operate without anesthesia making life-saving procedures unimaginably painful and dangerous, stripping patients of both safety and dignity.

Over 2 million people in Gaza are now facing acute hunger. In northern Gaza, famine-like conditions have taken hold, with children not just going to bed hungry but dying from malnutrition and dehydration, as confirmed by the IPC and WHO. Amnesty International has found that Israel is deliberately using starvation as a weapon of war by restricting aid, obstructing UN and NGO deliveries, destroying farmland, and militarizing food distribution. As a result, at least 66 children have died directly from malnutrition since October 2023, and nearly 15% of children screened are suffering from moderate to severe malnutrition with many of them returning to overwhelmed clinics again and again as their conditions worsen. Meanwhile, more than 850 UN aid trucks remain stuck at the border, fuel and cooking gas have been blocked since March, and crops and farms have been razed.

According to Amnesty International, repeated and deliberate attacks on civilian areas, combined with the widespread destruction of homes and essential infrastructure, have devastated entire communities and left safe shelter nearly impossible to find. As a result, displacement in Gaza is now near-total. Around 90% of the population or over 2 million people have been forced to leave their homes, many of them multiple times. Families are left to survive in overcrowded shelters, flimsy tents, or completely exposed to the elements, with little to no access to food, water, or medical care.

Amnesty International also reports that the destruction of infrastructure in Gaza appears deliberate and systematic, aimed at dismantling the foundations of civilian life and pushing survival beyond reach. For example, over 80% of residential buildings have been destroyed or severely damaged, turning entire neighborhoods into rubble. All universities have been leveled, while hundreds of schools have either been bombed, turned into overcrowded shelters, or rendered inoperable. Vital services like water, sanitation and electricity have also collapsed and is nearly nonexistent

In times like this, children suffer the most, and in Gaza, they are enduring unimaginable hardship. Thousands have been orphaned. There are no functioning schools left, and an entire generation is growing up without access to education. Instead, they are surrounded by constant trauma, grief, and violence. According to Amnesty International, the impact on Gazaโ€™s children is catastrophic: ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š๐™ฎ ๐™–๐™ง๐™š ๐™ฃ๐™ค๐™ฉ ๐™Ÿ๐™ช๐™จ๐™ฉ ๐™˜๐™ค๐™ก๐™ก๐™–๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ง๐™–๐™ก ๐™™๐™–๐™ข๐™–๐™œ๐™š, ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š๐™ฎ ๐™–๐™ง๐™š ๐™—๐™š๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™ง๐™ค๐™—๐™—๐™š๐™™ ๐™ค๐™› ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š๐™ž๐™ง ๐™›๐™ช๐™ฉ๐™ช๐™ง๐™š ๐™ž๐™ฃ ๐™ง๐™š๐™–๐™ก ๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ข๐™š.
We are witnessing a humanitarian catastrophe of historic scale in Gaza, one that continues to devastate civilian life, especially children. This level of destruction, displacement, and suffering must not be normalized nor ignored.

Israelโ€™s creation in 1948 was not the birth of peaceโ€”it was the launch of a settler-colonial project rooted in ethnic cleansing and backed by imperialist power, mainly the United States. Built on the violent displacement of Palestinians and sustained through apartheid and military occupation and brutalization, this regime has waged continuous war on people fighting for their right to exist on their own land. For over seven decades, Palestinians have endured siege, dispossession, and systematic state violence. The recent escalationโ€”from October 2023 to January 2025โ€”has resulted in over 80,000 deaths in Gaza alone, marking one of the bloodiest chapters in a long history of Israeli occupation in Palestine. This is not a conflictโ€”it is colonial violence, and it demands global attention and resistance.

As youth forged by our own history of colonization and resistance, we recognize that the struggle of the Palestinian people is inseparable from our own. โ€œOne Struggle, In Solidarity: From Philippines to Palestineโ€ this half-day forum brings together historians, peace scholars, and grassroots advocates to explore the roots of the Palestinian struggle within the context of Islamic and global history. It also aims to draw meaningful connections between Palestinian resistance and Philippine anti-colonial and pro-sovereignty movements, fostering critical dialogue and empathy among Filipino youth. Through academic insights and community perspectives, the event seeks to deepen understanding, encourage solidarity, and empower youth to engage with issues of global justice.

โœจ Featuring:
- Expert talks on Islamic and global history
- Dialogues on oppression, sovereignty, and solidarity
- A youth-led solidarity segment and open forum

We call on all freedom-loving peoples, youth, workers, and advocates of justice to stand with the Palestinian people in their fight for liberation. Come and join us as we create space for critical reflection, historical understanding, and collective action. Let us deepen our awareness of Islamic and global histories, highlight the shared struggles of Palestine and the Philippines, and bridge academic learning with real-world activism. Through dialogue and solidarity, let us all empower Filipino youth to think critically, feel deeply, and act justly in the face of global injustices.

Because solidarity is not just sentimentโ€”itโ€™s a shared, living struggle rooted in history and hope of the people. So, save the date, bring a friend, and stand with Palestine.
