'THE LAW IS ON OUR SIDE'

Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero’s legal team on Tuesday maintained that the ₱30 million campaign donation he received in 2022 was "legal" and "fully declared."

In a manifestation submitted to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Escudero’s counsel, Atty. Ramon Esguerra, reiterated their position amid questions over the donation from Lawrence Lubiano, president of Centerways Construction and Development Corporation—one of the government’s top contractors.

“The law is on our side, and we are confident the COMELEC will find no fault,” Esguerra said.

Under Article 11 of the Omnibus Election Code, contributions from individuals or companies with government contracts for goods, services, or construction are prohibited. | via Mon Gualvez/News5
